Sanity check on paid Grizzle EV charger.

In QC you can get $ 600 rebate for EV charger (from an approved list). Grizzle chargers are in that list.

I know that you can get free charger from Grizzle, but I wanted to buy it and get back 3/4 of its cost back via rebate.

My though process:

1). If Club cease to exists within next 3 years, I still own the charger. No need to send it back or buy out.

2). I can skip first two tiers and start from 5 cents/kWh. Having PHEV it will take me a while to reach that level if I have to start with free charger and 3 cents/kWh tier.

3). I want to hardwire the charger. Doing so to a “rental” charger feels counter-intuitive for me.

Math behind:

EV Charger: $ 649.99 + tx – $ 600 (rebate) = $ 147.33 (my initial cost, let’s round it to $ 150)

PHEV battery capacity ~20kW. So, one full charge will earn me 20 * 0.05 = $ 1

Potentially I can break even after 150 days. And if we bake-in “income tax” on those earning, let it be 200 days.

So after 7 months I will own the charger and start regular earnings.

Does it make sense?

I got my 2026 RAV4. Just wanted to share my experience, positive.

I got my 2026 RAV4 PHEV recently, in QC, Canada. This is my first new car bought from dealership. After reading tons of online post where people describe their buying experience and predatory dealerships tactics – I was very anxious about the whole process. I did a lot of homework, learned about vehicles I was targeting and went thru my financial scenarios. Surprisingly everything was pretty smooth.

First thing that I learned – in Canada dealerships have to sell new vehicles respecting MSRP.

Sales person – we simply built my configuration on toyota website and that was my price, excluding mandatory and very clearly predefined fees and taxes. Usual question how I was going to pay, where I honestly told that I’m looking into financing, but I haven’t decided about any details yet (how much down, which term, which lender).

I was able to get a test-drive.

Couple days before delivery. I met with sales person again to confirm accessories I selected. No aggressive tactics there. I mean, I already knew which accessories I wanted, I denied the rest and seems it was enough for sales person to get enough of his commission. After that they handed over me to finance person.

Finance. We went thru rates and terms – I simply got rate that was advertised on toyota website. Next they presented me a short presentation about extra warranties, protections plans, rust-proofing, etc. Very gentle, no pushy there, and a reminder that if I change my mind – I’d better register extended warranties during first 30 days after sale. I got all instructions on what should I prepare for possession day, and was left in peace. All $ numbers matched those from my homework up to 5 cent variation. I was very impressed and pleased.

Possession day. Bunch of paperwork with finance person. Then they handed me over to tech person. Their task was to introduce me to the new vehicle, explain some new tech stuff, answer all my questions and do some basic adjustments, so I can safely drive away.

That was a very pleasant experience. I can’t compare it with other dealerships, as it was my first transaction.

It was a regular dealership, no big chain names, located outside our two big metro areas.

Now I wait for survey email to give them my best scores and review.

Sorry, no photos, but you all already know how RAV4 looks like )))
