PSP on the Pocket Air Mini

I’ve completed many GBA titles using the PAM and had a great experience with it. I also own a modded PSP 3000, so I originally didn’t feel the need to emulate PSP games. But a few weeks ago, I realized that even with a new battery, my PSP only lasts around 3–4 hours, uses a proprietary charger, and lacks quality-of-life features like save states, fast-forward, and convenient Wi-Fi downloads that PPSSPP offers.

So I added some of my favorite PSP titles for longer road trips, including Lunar: Silver Star Harmony and PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe. They’re very different games, but both have been great to revisit.

Lunar is an RPG that is like gaming and watching an animé at the same time, while Monsters is a strategy game that is like tower defence. Try them out.

PSP emulation on the PAM doesn’t use the full screen, but I still prefer keeping the original aspect ratio over stretching the image.

I’ll always put original hardware first, but I’m happy to see how far emulation has come compared to the early 2020s. When used well, technology really helps keep hobbies more accessible and adaptable.

Extra note: I picked up an $8 CAD TPU grip from AliExpress and have been using it for about two months. It noticeably improved the grip, reduced the slippery feel, and the added bumps make it more comfortable to hold.

The light bleed on my PAM does show on the pictures but so far, has not distracted me while gaming. I find it negligible to be annoying, but it sure is present 😅

Gamecube on the RP Classic

At first, I was skeptical loading more GC titles after being uncomfortable using Azahar (3DS system emulator). But I really like the form factor of the RPC and I like their more quiet buttons.

I searched for games that needs less use of the C stick. And I found Pokemon Colosseum to be one of them. I just started it but have been enjoying it so far.

I increased fan to sport and performance to high. I also set the dpad to the directional buttons and dpad buttons (yep, for both).

After this game, I will look for other games that use less C stick and I hope to really enjoy emulating Gamecube on my RPC.

Am glad I tried it. I tried uploading a video but won't allow me.

Receive replacement screen vs send back for new unit replacement?

Asking for opinions.

My second Ayn Thor from Batch 4 arrived, and it’s the Max 4.0 version. Unfortunately, the bottom screen is defective. I’ve been troubleshooting with Ayn through software fixes, and multiple restarts, and they confirmed there is an issue with the lower screen.

They gave me 2 options:

  1. They send me a replacement screen and I do the repair myself using their disassembly guide/video.

  2. I send the entire device back and they send me a replacement unit.

My concern with option 2 is that they no longer make the exact configuration I have (1TB Batch 4 version 4.0). I asked them if the replacement would be a true 1:1 equivalent, but they haven’t replied yet since it’s the weekend.

Right now, I’m leaning toward keeping my unit and attempting the screen replacement myself. I’m reasonably confident with electronics, and after watching the teardown video twice, I think I could do it. Still, I’m not a professional, and I’m worried there could be other hidden issues or that I might accidentally damage something further.

For me, option 2 only makes sense IF they can guarantee I’ll receive an equivalent-value replacement. Otherwise, I don’t think it’s fair to exchange it for a lesser model.

Thankfully, I’m not in a rush since I have other devices, including a Pro model that works perfectly.
If this were your situation, would you:
Attempt the DIY screen replacement?

Or return the whole unit and risk receiving a downgraded replacement?

What would you do?

Their team is still on weekend so I have a day at least to decide and reply to them.

I was gifted an Apple magnetic strap last March and I was using it on my camera. I thought I'd try it on my Thor. Looks okay and very secure. Almost looks like a purse.. 🤣

The strap is easily removable and I will probably leave the two hooks on my Thor as it was a bit cumbersome to install.

I just thought I share it on here.
