I build Minas Ithil from Shadow of war in Minetest

Hey guys, I’d like to introduce you to a project I’ve been working on for several years.

From time to time, I play Minetest. It’s basically the same as Minecraft, but completely open source. I love fantasy—especially the universes of J. R. R. Tolkien and The Elder Scrolls.

I set myself the goal of building several well-known cities and landmarks from both universes in one world and connecting them. I work based on images and models, aiming to recreate the locations as accurately as possible, while also incorporating my own ideas, preferences, and interpretations.

I started this project back in 2014, beginning with the Gondorian city of Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings. I’ve completed most of it. After that, I wanted to try something different, so I built the Imperial City from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which is also nearly finished.

My latest sub-project is the city of Minas Ithil, recreated based on its depiction in Middle-earth: Shadow of War. As mentioned, I tried to rebuild the buildings and the city itself as faithfully as possible to how it appears in the game, while still adding some of my own elements. I built the city in its original, intact state—before the Orc attack.

I’m not completely finished with the city yet—there are still some details missing. I’d like to share my progress with you. Here are a few screenshots of Minas Ithil. I hope you Like it.

Don’t be confused by the white areas outside—those are just unloaded map regions. The city and the mountain are fully integrated into the world. It’s just that loading everything at once would be too much for my PC.
