Can I complete the Minimalist achievement in RE4 using the scope of a rifle?

I am going through RE4 currently trying to beat the game using only handguns and knives. But I hate the regeneradors and am wondering if I can use the thermal scope on my rifle and then shoot with my pistol?

I’m going for the bandit achievement in my newest run but I noticed when I go for this locked drawer my pathway is blocked, so I need to start a fresh run or can I get here somehow
