Reclaimed wire

Reclaimed wire

Has anyone used reclaimed copper wire? My dad and brother collect a lot of scrap metal and gave me a bunch of different gague copper wires they stripped the plastic coatings off.

It should be fine to use for wire wrapping right? Ive not been at it long so im using cheap wires anyway

Back sides views

I've just started to learn wire wrapping, just bought some cheapish materials and tools untill i know what im doing (and partly because i hyperfixate on a new hobby for a month then drop it).

I'm doing ok with the front side of what i make, but the back sides are throwing me off.

Is anyone willing to post both sides of their work please? Id love to understand more how to make everything look tidy instead of a tangled mess at the back.

Thank you 🙂

So my daughter has had me making summer skirts and dresses for her recently. The skirts arent a problem as i just use a rectangle with an elasticated waist, so theres only really one seam and a couple of folded hems. No patterns, just winging it with her measurements and drawing out templates myself.

The problem is, i dont have a sewing machine (or the money to buy one right now) so ive been hand sewing everything. Shes asked me to make her a princess style dress, which i can do. Im just not sure how to stop all the seams from fraying and there is soooo many!

I probably overcomplicated it because the bodice part alone has 8 parts and a zipper at the back, but it fits perfectly so yayy! She likely wont care about frayed edges on the inside, so long as theres plently of pink and sparkles, i just wondered if theres a way of tidying the edges up that dont require a machine?

EDIT

So I'd carried on with the skirt part before coming back to look at responses. Never heard of a french seam so i had to google it. Turns out thats exactly what id done to the first skirt seam 😂. As for the bodice. I only lined the scratchy glotter fabric part. The rest is a polycotton so im going to get some bias tape and fix the rest of the seams on that.

Thanks for all the help. I at least know better now when she gives me her next project 🤣
