Perks don’t do enough

In a game like apex when you choose a legend you’re not just getting a slight speed boost or the ability to heal up a little faster, you’re getting the ability to fucking fly or go invisible, and yet somehow with a roster of 20 different distinct power sets respawn does a pretty good job of balancing them all out so that there is a meta but rarely is a legend completely useless and that’s because the players distinct playstyle and strategy impacts the legend’s performance. Team composition becomes critical to success and the best pairings are those that not only compliment each other but work within the tactics the team has.

Now obviously I’m not saying we should get the ability to fly or go invisible, but with perks that truly distinguished themselves and empowered players distinct playstyles, I think it would add layer of depth of the gameplay we’ve never truly had. The way the game is designed there’s always this push and pull between slower tactical players wanting the game one way while faster agressive players want it completely opposite.

What if instead of making the game fast or slow, the perks were what truly defined how a player engages with the gameplay. “Sentinels” for example favor perks like ghost because it allows them to remain off the radar and retain their positional advantages, but what if ghost did more than just keep you off a uav and instead provided camouflage that doesn’t truly make you invisible but allows to you blend in with the background so you’re visible but not sticking out like a sore thumb. An aggressive player favors perks like Ninja because it prevents them from being sound whored, but what if it also provided the ability to mantle faster and provided a certain grace to mobility that doesn’t have to be baked into the movement from the start. They could even combine the effects of perks like Battle hardened and bomb squad so it could remove all effects of tacticals and limit the damage from lethals. The list goes on.

I’m not suggesting that they redesign the perks so that they’re so op we have different flavors of hero shooter characters running around, but I think the current anti power creep perk system that’s been happening for years has just turned what is an otherwise really creative system into one that is barely noticeable and adds very little variety to how we as individuals approach the game we’re playing year after year.

Nuke contracts should be easier to get so that more lobbies have the emergent event more often

Obviously I get why the devs want it to be something to strive for but honestly having a nuke contract show up in your lobby is more fun than getting one yourself. The game is so stale right now and running around trying to steal a contract/stop the enemy team is the only thing that gets my blood pumping. I think giving lower skilled players the opportunity to get their own instead of having to save up wins all season just to lose it in their first attempt makes people not even try for it cuz they think it’s beyond them.

The Toraline root vegetable

So this is technically about Gate of the Feral Gods but given it isn’t revealed what the true intentions of the Yams utility were until book 7, i figured I’d cover my bases for spoilers.

So my question is did Matt know its intended use as tattoo ink to share spells from the start? It’s used in a variety of ways throughout the next couple books, but it’s given in a loot box directly before a discussion about the tomb raiders needing some kind of spell like clock work triplicate to safely traverse the necropolis.

I know for a fact Matt says he’s just making shit up as he goes and the Yam is soo random and seemingly useless that it seems like it was just tossed in as a joke with the “I’ll give it a good reason later”, but it’s soo weird that he’d wait 3 whole books before actually revealing it’s intended utility when not even a full chapter later its perfect use case with mention of the cook book is right there. It’s gotta be something he knew all along right? And just found a more fitting solution for the problems in book 4 while writing it?
