Need advice about using Army TA with FAFSA at community college

Hey everyone,

I’m currently attending community college and I’m trying to understand how Army Tuition Assistance works with FAFSA.

My college does accept Army TA, but my advisor told me I can’t use both FAFSA and Army TA to “double dip” on the same tuition charges. From what I understand, that means I can’t have FAFSA cover the tuition and then also have Army TA pay for the same exact charges.

That’s where I’m confused. If FAFSA already covers my tuition, does that mean I basically can’t use my Army TA for that school year? Or is there a way Army TA can still be used properly without causing an issue with financial aid?

I also wanted to know if anyone has attended one college while using FAFSA and then used Army TA at another school at the same time. I’m not trying to do anything wrong — I just don’t want to waste a benefit if there is a legitimate way to use it.

Has anyone dealt with this through ArmyIgnitED, their school’s financial aid office, or their education center?

Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

PAR

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone here knows how to set up a PAR for a conditional release ? I’m currently in the Army Reserve and I already have a DD 368 signed by me and my NG recruiter, I just don’t know how to set up the PAR so I can send it up the chain of command.

Hello all, I was just trying to get some general information on enlisting into the army National Guard. So, I’m currently in the army reserve and I ETS in February 2027. I was just wondering if I want to join the Army National Guard can I use my PHA and IMR instead of going to meps for medical ?
