Flags and Bogworld tour shirts available now | www.shedtheory.com

Flags on the top row are "huge" and limited edition, they cost a ton tho. Flags on bottom are only $15, but they're pretty small (middle pic for scale). Also Bogworld tour overstock tees. Ended up getting the sword & shield flag. Wish they had an option between the giant and small flags tho.

Somebody PLEASE help me refine my IEM taste, I keep making the wrong purchases!

Over the years, I’ve purchased a handful of IEMs. My first were the Blessing 2 Dusks, which I found pretty boring but tried to live with for about 6 months, ended up selling them. Then I got the MP145, which I enjoyed greatly for most genres when using the red nozzles, and I still have to this day, but I couldn’t help but feel like something was missing. Later on, I purchased the FATfreq deuce because I wanted to try dynamics again, and thought I might enjoy the bass head route (I did not, sent them back almost immediately). Most recently, I purchased the Tea Pro SEs, which check so many of those “missing” boxes that the MP145 had: vocals sound present and beautiful (though male vocals can be a bit thin), massive soundstage, 3D imaging, great detail, and separation in spades. There’s a glaring issue though: the midbass tuck. I listen to a lot of music with bass guitar, which ends up sounding thin at best or borderline inaudible at worst. I don’t need the bass guitar to overpower the mix by any means, but I want it to have some power and texture behind it. I think the midbass tuck may contribute to the overall “thin” sound that this IEM has, and I was able to make it a little better with some gentle EQ, but it just didn’t sound “right”. I also find them just a hair bright and shouty in the upper mid range. Regardless, I think I’m going to keep these because some genres sound mind blowing on this set, but they’re not the all rounder I hoped they’d be.

At the end of the day, I want a set that works as an all rounder but sounds best for my main genres, which are 90s alt rock, 90s shoegaze, 90s indie rock, early angular post-hardcore (think Unwound, Slint, Rodan, June of 44) and modern underground rap (this is where the mp145 excels, good thump but not overbearing, the synths, sound effects and busy production cut through and have texture without sounding overly bright or remotely dull). I like vocals to be present but not overbearing, I like the focus to be on the instruments or production for the respective genres without burying the vocals. Most of all, I want my music to have body, to feel less like a 2D reproduction and more like a 3D sound.

As far as budget goes, I’d like to spend less than $500 ideally, but I could honestly go up to $1000 for the elusive perfect set. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I understand that by purchasing a set with more midbass, I won’t get Tea Pro SE levels of separation. That’s totally fine, and might even be a plus for some of my genres. I’m planning on keeping the Tea Pro SE for genres that benefit from that anyway.
