Does anyone else think fender has every right to defend their product?
I am at a loss when it comes to this fender lawsuit thing. Setting aside whether fender properly protected the strat shape or not, they have every right to defend it. And the response from the builders seems to be we build a better strat and customers want it. Great, still doesn't allow for it. It would be like if GM came out with the camero and it was an exact copy of the mustang. And then they said yeah, but we built it better and materials are nicer. What did GM do, they built the Camero which shared a metric f*** ton with the mustang but wasn't a copy. There are so many companies out there building S type guitars that are their own take on it. PRS most recently and perhaps famously, but also so many others. Even a freaking Sire is different.
These companies that are complaining are not guitar builders in my mind. They didn't design anything. They make really nice partscasters. And if they want to do that, the car industry again provides a model. Plenty of companies but cars and fix em up and make em perform and then sell them on. The guys could buy the parts from Fender and make em real nice. But to think they owe them nothing? I just can't get my head around it.
