26 MX Steering Wheel to Yoke
BLUF: Why can’t my 2026 Model X be retrofitted with a Tesla yoke steering wheel? Can someone from Tesla Service explain the actual reason instead of the generic “it’s not available for your VIN” response?
I purchased my Model X in October 2025 from existing inventory and chose the traditional steering wheel at the time because I thought I preferred it. After living with it, I’ve found that it blocks a significant portion of the driver’s display, and I’d like to switch to the yoke.
During a service visit for a tire rotation, I asked about the retrofit. The advisor told me it shouldn’t be a problem and even quoted me a price. However, when I later submitted a service request, I was told there is no yoke retrofit available for my VIN.
I also asked whether I could purchase a genuine Tesla yoke myself and have Tesla install it, but I was told Tesla only installs parts that are ordered through Tesla—and since the retrofit isn’t available for my VIN, that isn’t an option either.
So my question is simple: What is the actual reason a 2026 Model X cannot be retrofitted with a Tesla yoke? Is there a hardware difference, a software limitation, a regulatory issue, or is it simply a policy decision?
Also, has anyone with a 2026 Model X successfully had Tesla install a yoke, or found another legitimate solution?
