Sweet older cat needs adoption

We found Wayne eating a catnip plant in our yard two weeks ago. He was all too happy to be scooped up and brought inside. He’s about 10 years old and completely healthy aside from some minor dental work (which my roommate nor I can afford as broke SBU students) — neutered, feline HIV and leukemia negative, he has no microchip and had no collar or tags on when we found him.

He loves to eat and play in spurts when he’s not napping or being pet. He would do well in a quiet home where he can get lots of attention. We’re unsure of how he does with other cats or animals yet, but likely gets along with other cats just fine after some acclimation based on how he interacts with ours through his quarantine gate. He never hissed at us even though he needed to be bathed (twice) after having accidents on the way to and from the vet. He’s all around an old and sweet gentleman.

I’m not asking for an adoption fee or anything, and would be willing to drop him off at his new home if needed, + you would be able to come meet him if interested.

If you’re interested or would like to know more about him please dm me here on Reddit, or you can email me at bassesgohonk@gmail.com. Thank you!!

Edit:
Thank you for all the advice and concern over Wayne, I just wanted to clear a few things up.
1- We are vetting any potential adopters thoroughly, hence why I asked them to message me and they would be able to meet us and him first before he would be adopted. To be frank, my broke ass didn’t drop a band on this cat and let him sleep on my pillow for the past two weeks for someone to take him from us and use him in some sort of ritual sacrifice or whatever y’all think is going to happen. We care about him and care deeply about him getting to the right home.
2- we’d seen him on the streets for months (and knew he’d been on the streets for YEARS as per the girls that lived in our house before we moved in). I believe he was maybe once someone’s pet, he’s friendly and neutered, but he was definitely not at the time we picked him up. He’s been with us for two weeks, and again I dropped a band on his vet care, so I left out that he came to us with ear mites, matted fur, and an upper respiratory infection. He’s not a cat that just up and left someone’s house a few days ago. His ears are folded over because of chronic ear infections that had never been treated. And again, he’s not microchipped and didn’t have a collar — we asked around the neighborhood and no one claimed him or said they knew of his owners.
3- We’re holding off on giving him to a shelter because we are perfectly capable of fostering him before we find him an adopter, and we would like him to be in a quiet house where he gets the attention and care he needs. A shelter environment is stressful for animals and we see no reason to put him in one if it’s not necessary. He’s ten years old and it’s harder to find adopters for older animals, and he would sit in that stressful environment for longer. Both me and my roommate work or have worked in some sort of rescue/wildlife rehab, we don’t hold anything against shelter employees, there is just quite literally no way to house that many animals in that amount of space without it being loud and a bit stressful for them.
4- I would honestly rather shit in my hands and clap than give him over to the SBU cat network. We’ve fostered for them before earlier this year and they do not take their cats to the vet, and do neglect to tell the people who will be fostering that. We took in a kitten who clearly had fleas — when we asked if they’d noticed we didn’t receive any response. A few hours later someone came by our house with a mild flea deterrent and told us that the kitten’s sister had been adopted and that the adopters vet (not the cat network) found fleas on her, so they were giving us flea meds “just in case.” About a week later we had introduced the kitten to our cat (because we were under the impression that he’d been seen by a vet and was healthy) when we found out the kitten had a severe case of some sort of intestinal parasite via bloody diarrhea I messaged the people at the cat network about what they wanted to do and it took hours to get a response. they hadn’t given me the name of a vet or any kind of procedure about emergency vet visits. The next day they came and took the kitten back, and then a week later we noticed our cat had ringworm (only source could’ve been the kitten). Again the people we contacted at the cat network refused to acknowledge that they neglected to properly vet their animals before bringing them to fosters.
Wayne will not be going there lol. I’m sure they’re well meaning and trying their best, but you cannot be operating in that manner when the welfare of animals depends on you.
