I have a 4.5 and 1.5 year old, as does a friend. We are donating blood together this Saturday and realized this will be an hour+ of uninterrupted adult conversation, so I wanted to share this potential revelation with other parents who are able to donate blood and who are seeking uninterrupted adult conversation.
Parents of small children in the US: we could help address the national blood shortage!
This is a question for insurance professionals, especially actuaries, underwriters, and catastrophe modelers (I work closely with insurance professionals but am not a professional myself, so am posting here instead of r/InsuranceProfessional ).
Did your company use data from the Ocean Observatories Initiative, the network of deep-sea sensors in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans? If so, what, if any, impacts to your company or the insurance sector broadly do you anticipate from the Trump administration's decision to dismantle it? The network provided data that informed marine and climate modeling and I'm curious to what extent this will affect (re)insurers' nat cat risk modeling capabilities.
This is probably part /NoStupidQuestions and part /HomeMaintenance. How do I remove the one piece of rotted wood from these two exterior window frames in order to replace them? Some of the nails *might* be sticking out enough that I could get a hammer in there and pry them out and then hopefully loosen the board, but otherwise is it ok to use either a hammer or a crowbar to loosen the wood at the edge, enough to pull it up? The wood seems recessed so it's almost, not quite flush with the siding. The siding is Hardie board. Any tips for a total amateur and first time homeowner are welcome.
I'm about to totally clean out, reorganize, and fix up my black widow haven shed in the backyard. I have tried in the past to seal a gap between the bottom of the wood framing and the cement floor where water comes in when there is hard rain. I used foam-like stuff that I think is supposed to expand and fill a space to seal it, but I noticed water still comes through. I'm guessing this was user error on my part so I'm seeking any tips for reapplication and/or alternative methods to keep the water out. Thank you.
Please redirect me if this is too far afield: I'm a climate campaigner looking for folks working in tech in London and Zurich who are concerned about climate change and believe that corporations are primarily responsible. I'm working on a particular strategy that I'd prefer to discuss over DMs that involves not actually using your tech skills, necessarily, but is centered around a particular financial sector's desire to recruit folks with tech backgrounds. Thanks.
