Last fall we had tree work done and they disturbed the soil quite a bit running big vehicles over it and pushing scrub into piles. This spring I have an unprecedented number of 1st year garlic mustard plants. I’ve been diligently pulling them for 4 years now and have never had so many sprouts before. I’m wondering if disturbing the soil caused a lot of the dormant seeds to sprout? I honestly believe I had gotten every single plant from my yard prior to this because I’m fairly obsessive about pulling them. Does anyone know if my hypothesis is true? Also how many 1st plants come back the next year generally?

Has anyone found a way to obtain a birth certificate from Cook County for genealogy purposes? I’m looking for one from 1905. I have been struggling to find the correct place to submit a request. And I gave it a shot requesting one from the “birth certificate for a new child” spot and I have not heard anything. I am willing to drive to Chicago if that would help.

I just read the post about the lawsuit in Cook County, and I really appreciate that someone is trying to fix the issue! In the short term, is there any practical way to obtain a birth certificate from Cook County from 1905? I do have my father‘s cooperation, and he would be willing to submit a request for his father‘s birth certificate. But beyond that, I cannot find a place to submit a request even by mail. If somebody has had any luck with this, could they please point me in the correct direction in order to actually obtain a birth certificate even if it takes a long time
