Is a 13-year-old Tundra with a 6" lift and 181k miles a money pit?

For context, I'm looking at a 2013 Tundra CrewMax 4x4 (5.7L) with 181k miles. Seller wants it for $19.5k and I was able to negotiate down to $16.5k. It's got a 6-inch Rough Country lift kit with mud terrain 35s. Seller is the 4th owner and has no clue when the lift kit was installed but mentioned that shocks and brake pads have just been replaced prior to him buying it a year ago. I'm cautious about buying a lifted truck and I’m worried about its long-term reliability and hidden maintenance costs. I’m going to schedule for a PPI.

The maintenance history is exceptional per Carfax. The vehicle has received regular oil changes, tire rotations, and scheduled inspections. Notable mechanical records include the replacement of the water pump, water pump gasket, and a cooling system flush in early 2022. But it doesn’t show any history of any suspension work.

For those with experience on high-mileage lifted trucks, what are the specific "red flags" I should look for during a pre-purchase inspection? Is a truck with this setup and these miles generally considered a bad daily driver?

2013 CrewMax 5.7L 181k miles. Seller’s asking price is $19.5k, negotiated down to $16.5k. Still too much?

For context, I’m looking at a 2013 Tundra CrewMax 4x4 (5.7L) with 181k miles. Was able to negotiate down to $16.5k. It’s a 6-inch lift on mud terrain 35s with plenty of aftermarket mods (leather, CarPlay, sound system). It looks pristine, but I’m cautious about buying a lifted truck. I have a PPI scheduled.

Had 4 owners. The maintenance history is exceptional. There are 37 service records. The vehicle has received regular oil changes, tire rotations, and scheduled inspections. Notable mechanical interventions include the replacement of the water pump, water pump gasket, and a cooling system flush in early 2022.

I drive a work vehicle 5 days a week, so this wouldn't be my daily driver. Since l'd only be using it for errands and weekend trips, it seems like a much lower-risk purchase for me, especially considering its reliability factor.

What are the major red flags for a 6-inch lift at this mileage?

Are there specific high-mileage trouble spots for the 2013 5.7L
engine I should prioritize?

Is $16k fair for a build like this in today's market?

Any input from current owners or those who have bought pre-modded trucks would be appreciated!

Advice needed: Buying a 2013 Tundra CrewMax 5.7L (180k miles) - $16k

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some input on a potential purchase. I found a 2013 Toyota Tundra Grade CrewMax 4x4 (5.7L i-Force) with 180k miles listed on Marketplace for $19k, and I've successfully negotiated the price down to $16k.

The truck appears pristine in photos (interior/exterior). A 6-inch lift was installed by a previous owner, 20" wheels on 35" tires, leather seats, aftermarket CarPlay head unit, and ProBox subwoofers. It also includes a bed cover and a bed liner.

This would be my first truck, so I'm trying to be extra cautious about buying someone else's build. I haven't seen it in person yet, but I have a mechanic scheduled to perform a full pre-purchase inspection before I finalize anything.

My Questions:

  1. Since this is my first truck, are there specific first-timer red flags I should be looking for with a 6-inch lift and 35-inch tires?
  2. Beyond the standard inspection, what should I ask my mechanic to look for specifically regarding the lift/suspension wear-and-tear at 180k miles?
  3. Are there specific high-mileage trouble spots for the 2013 5.7L
    engine I should prioritize?
  4. Does $16k feel like a fair price in the current market for this build?

I appreciate any advice or watch-outs you can provide!

2013 Toyota Tundra Grade Crew Max 4x4 5.7L I-Force V8 180k miles for sale by a private party. His asking price is $19k, but I want to negotiate. What do y’all think?

For context, I found this truck at FB Marketplace for sale at $19k.
Seller had a few upgrades on the truck. Has a 6-inch lift, 20" wheels, 35" tires, leather seats, upgraded entertainment unit (touch screen with carplay), probox subs at the back seat, and a bed cover. Seller had sent pictures and the truck appears to be in pristine condition inside and out. I'm having a mechanic to look at it before making a purchase. Any inputs?

2002 Chevy silverado with 105k miles for sale by a dealership. Asking price of $17k. What do y’all think?

I am currently eyeing at a lifted 2002 Chevy Silverado LT Z71 Short Bed 4WD with 105k miles. One owner and very well-maintained per the Carfax report. The dealer is asking $17k for it. I know this might be significantly higher than the standard $5k–$8k market range for GMT800s, but I am considering it because I want a reliable first vehicle and assume the low mileage and maintenance history might justify the cost. Is this a fair price, or is there too much risk for a 24 yr old vehicle regardless of the condition? Also, since this will be my first truck, what specific things should I inspect or look for during a test drive to ensure it is actually reliable?
