water heater broken for 5 days and landlord is ignoring my texts (CA)

my hot water stopped working last week and it is freezing here. i texted my landlord 3 times and he just keep saying someone will come but nobody shows up. is it always like this when u rent? why is it so hard to make landlords fix stuff. i cant even take a shower right now. who can i report this to cause i cant live like this anymore..

is it even smart to buy right now or should i just wait?

honestly i’m so tired of looking lol. every time i think i’m ready to buy, the prices go up another 20k. people keep saying wait for the market to crash but i’ve been hearing that for 3 years and nothing happened. is 2026/2027 actually gonna be better or am i just wasting money on rent for no reason? idk what to do anymore tbh

requiring 3x income for a garbage apartment is actual insanity

why they want me making 6k a month just to approve my 2k apartment that hasn't been updated since 2004 so if i was bringing in that much money i wouldnt be begging to live in uninsulated box with a landlord special paint job i paid the application fee just for them to tell me that i'm not rich enough to pay off their mortgage. the math literally doesnt math anymore..

rent is going up $200 but my stove still only has one working burner lol

I got my renewal letter today $200 increase starting next month. i asked the landlord if they were finally gonna fix my broken stove or the leaking sink since im paying more now. he literally said rent increases reflect market value, not property improvements.

so im just paying $200 extra a month to live in the exact same broken apartment. these people are actual parasites tbh.

i moved out last week, spent 2 days deep cleaning the place so it was spotless. landlord just texted saying hes keeping my full $1500 deposit and wants $400 more for professional painting and replacing the carpet. wht!!!

the carpet is literally like 10+ years old and was already stained when i moved in which i noted on the move in sheet. his proof of damage is a picture of dust on a ceiling fan and couch indentations on the carpet lol.

i took a full walk through video the day i handed over the keys. do i even bother arguing with him or just ghost his text and take his ass straight to small claims court? so tired of these greedy slumlords tbh.

literally nothing in this house has been fixed since 2022. the dishwasher is broken and the roof leaks, but sure, tell me more about the market value of this place.

how do they sleep at night charging this much for a house that’s falling apart?? smh.

i really wanted to stop renting this year so i started looking at houses. my rent is $1,800 but a mortgage for a tiny house in the same area would be like $2,800 with these interest rates.

it feels so hopeless. i hate throwing money away on rent but i literally cant afford an extra $1,000 a month just to say i own it. is anyone else just stuck renting because the math makes zero sense to buy anymore? i feel like ill be renting forever tbh
