Let’s talk about Georgia
(THIS POST IS A RANT ABOUT MOVING FROM NEW YORK TO GEORGIA, IF YOU’RE NOT INTERESTED THEN DON’T READ IT!!!!)
I realized that people down south, especially in places like Georgia, tend to be bigger than people up north, like in New York, and I think part of the reason is because everything here is so car-dependent. When I moved to Georgia, one of the first things I noticed was the lack of sidewalks and public transportation. There are cars everywhere, but barely any bus lines, and I rarely see people being physically active besides the occasional jogger or biker. Sure, people go to the gym, but realistically the entire population isn’t working out regularly.
I’ve also noticed that my food intake has increased a lot since moving here because I’m constantly bored.
I don’t have a car or license yet, which wasn’t really a problem in New York because I could walk or take the subway anywhere. Out here, nothing is within walking distance, and even if you do walk somewhere, it’s usually just a restaurant or grocery store. Honestly, this is one of the most boring places I’ve ever lived in.
I already know some people will respond with “well, then leave,” without understanding my situation, because they’re so defensive about Georgia. I’ve also been struggling to find a job because not having a car makes things harder, and it feels like employers judge me for my tattoos and piercings, which is frustrating because my appearance has nothing to do with my ability to work. In New York, walking and taking public transportation is just a normal part of daily life unless you want to spend a ton on tolls and driving. I don’t really have a point to this post — I’ve just been up all night eating, bored, and thinking about how much I would rather not be here lol.
