In the 7th grade, my teacher asked me and my best friend if we were boyfriend and girlfriend (Light hearted story :D)

So I was about to drift off last night, when this memory resurfaced from like, what? Over a decade ago? In 24 and in the seventh grade you're probably about 13 so eleven years ago.

I was in class sitting next to my best friend, who we'll call Mason, who, hence the name, was a boy.

We knew each other from church and school and had been friends for like seven years at the time of this story. I'm actually still in touch with him to this day, which makes this story all the more cursed.

Our school was a K - 12 and very small, so literally everybody knew everyone, all the teachers were like aunts and uncles to you, and classrooms were very small and gossip got around quick. I remember the kids in my school made up a ship name for us, in like, 2015, so you best believe it was a horrible ship name.

Anyways, Mason and I were sitting next to each other, laughing about something when the teacher for the high school walked in to ask our teacher, who I'll call Mrs. Brown, something. We continued to goof off when the high school teacher, who I'll call Mr. Rodriguez rocked up to my desk and started scolding Mason.

Something along the lines of "Listen here young man, you're the only boy in this class, so you best act like it and be more mature." and I naturally, as a little girl in the seventh grade does, tried not to laugh and instead I THINK , like, hit him on the shoulder? Cuz I remember Mr. Rodriguez being like, "And you do not hit him >;( "

After he said that we both started laughing, and he slammed on the desk, which made us stop laughing, and eyed us for like ten seconds before saying "Are you two boyfriend and girlfriend?"

The whole class (of fifteen people) uproared in laughter, INCLUDING MRS. BROWN

Now, Mason was one of those little white boys who got red when they were mad or embarrassed and he got BEET red, you could make orange with how red his face was. I probably only remember all of this because I had never seen someone's face be so flushed and it is now stamped within my memory.

I said "Haha! No. No Mr. Rodriguez, we're not, we're thirteen :') "

While Mason said, "WHAT?? PHHFT NOOOO WHAT THE- Ahem... No."

Which made the whole classroom even MORE SUSPICIOUS, and the teachers eye each other like "Sure, sure ;)"

Mr. Rodriguez said "Good. Then don't act like it!" and walked out, with our teacher Mrs. Brown to leave the cherry on top of,

"Well, I take you two will want to be partners for the history project I was about to announce?"

I brought it up to Mason the other day when I saw him at a function for all the laity of the church we went to growing up because he's back in his hometown for the summer like I am and he said, " I thought you would've forgotten that by now. ", getting red just like how he used to when he was little.

THE END
