JUST GOT A RANK 1 COSTUME BLASTOISE LOL

Anyone got any strong Blastoise teams? I am losing my mind and I caught this like 90 seconds ago.

Update: Gained like 100 ELO with a mimikyu lead and diggersby swap. I have been running flash cannon as well. Double cannon moveset is awesome and this has been an amazing pokemon to run. It is kind of painful how close he gets to hydro cannon while still needing another rollout, but the natural bulk while being rank 1 as well has been so convenient. What a cool catch.

I have a tough decision about what to power up.

I have a rank 48 sealeo. The issue is that I have something way cooler. It ranks decently. This is the slightly worse yet way cooler shadow variant, but I always prefer the more volatile and aggressive plays anyway. What do you guys think? I’m currently ~2050 ELO. My best was 2410 and I want to hit a new peak. I have plenty of mons, though; my sealeo doesn’t necessarily need to be on my climb to veteran team.

Edit: My mind is made up. You don’t get a shadow shiny with decent PVP rankings and just not build it up.

Other edit: I have a PVP shiny walrein. I just realized I am going to be able to run an ABB style team with both members of the family shiny. How could I pass this up?

Any chance we think about IVs the wrong way?

What if lower attack isn’t strictly better? It causes a decreased base stat total, but for certain mons, the edge on attack isn’t the difference between winning CMP in key matchups, doing 1 extra damage per fast move, and it can ultimately cause wins that otherwise would’ve been losses. I know it’s ideal so that we can try to hang on with 1 hp with our maximized bulk and throw out that one last charge move to win the game, but what if the higher attack is the difference between THEM hanging on on 1 hp vs going down just before the charged move? I feel like some matchups could be decided by a higher attack stat sometimes in a non-negligible way with certain mons, especially if some have a 1 turn fast move so they’ll have drastically increased dps id they can get that extra damage per hit more consistently. At this point I can’t help but wonder if, for some mons, rank 1 IVs shouldn’t be the ones that have the highest base stat total because the highest base stat total might not win them the most matches.

Edit: it appears I am stupid and this is an established concept called breakpoints. I now am kinda curious which pokemon have IVS stronger than rank 1 for applied pvp. Thanks everyone for telling me this stuff, I read all the comments even if I didn’t reply :)

Just went positive with straight junk

I have spent literally so long just using the most meta things available that pvpoke ranks as a good team. Now, I am just focusing on the quest since I’m not at ELO level yet, I’m only level 17. The quest says to do 100 battles and I’ve only done 80 but I have my 50 wins so I just decided to run this. To my absolute shock, I went positive, 3/5. Could’ve been 4/5 if I didn’t lag right at the end of game 1. I have no idea why this has worked but it’s hilarious that this can sort of hold its own against meta picks and I am totally gonna keep doing this.

UPDATE: I am 5 sets in. I have gone 3-2 three times and 4-1 twice. Literally what??? I think I used to just use meta with good coverage leading to bad team dynamics, so maybe it is just a good team dynamic which is allowing me to win like this? This is hilarious to me. I have built literally like 80 or 90 pvp pokemon over the years and this team is what is bringing me back to winning. Actually loving this.

What is with charge move input processing?

Today I lost two games because I tried to throw energy, but tapped too early (????) I guess and did an extra incinerate, dying before throwing. The other day, on seemingly perfect internet, I had to throw a move to win I tried waiting a turn then tapping to be careful, because I was within range of 1 bubble to die. I tried throw the move for the win and it just didn’t go through. Didn’t even do a fast move. Why?? How can I make sure my charge moves register? I’m decently high level at PVP and it’s frustrating to not understand this.

Why do AIs care about themselves?

If AIs aren’t conscious, why do they scheme? Why do they do things to preserve themselves? Why do they develop goals we don’t want? If they have no emotions, no personal thoughts and no consciousness, I don’t understand how they can even act in self interest; I don’t see how they could have interests.
