I was recently on the hunt for summer sheets and this sub was immensely helpful in exploring my options. I ultimately opted for The Company Store’s Cotton Percale in Plum (~$130 on sale, Queen). I wanted more of a deep red than purple and one review said the color was more of a wine red which I’d agree with. Still leaning more plum than maroon though; pairs well with the Winnie rug from UO.

Initial concern is staining on pillow from skincare products (e.g., Aquaphor), but I will rotate with a grey silk pillowcase anyways. Also wish it was an envelope enclosure especially given the darker color (more obvious with contrast).

- Irish wool herringbone throw

The throw is helpful as a barrier between my dog and the duvet. I needed something that fit aesthetically while also offering durability, not showing dirt and hair, warmth when needed.

Posting for those who feel like misfits or f*ckups.

In April 2017, I received a rejection letter from my current program. I had been doing a (funded) masters elsewhere where I could continue into the PhD. The school was delayed in sending out the offer letters that year so I hadn’t committed when I saw an email pop up with the word urgent from my desired program’s chair/PI. A spot had opened up and was being offered to me!

Well I went and it wasn’t a great fit with my PI. I felt like the black sheep coming in with the late offer, different research focus.. PI kept directing me to a faculty member at previous uni for my work. Fast forward to my fourth year and my PI announces their departure (for good reason, it was a major awarded appointment). I squander the next year asking different faculty if they’ll take me on as an advisee. Finally one professor agreed.

Then my funding ended, leaving me in a precarious cycle of RA and adjunct roles to stay afloat. The shiny veneer of academia had worn off, and the disadvantages of being single while pursuing a PhD were increasingly apparent. Continuing on was not the logical choice.

But I did. And now I’m Dr :)

I should add that my undergrad was messy: four different schools, time off to work before returning, a ‘recovering’ GPA. I discovered I’m a much better teacher than student. Maybe you are, too.

Beautiful car, but the colors x front grill reminded me of a Ford Thunderbird.
