You can’t fire me, I don’t work here.

Alright I didn’t know there was a subreddit for this but I got a story I just have to share because my friends and I laugh over it so much.

When I go out shopping I commonly get mistaken for a worker there. This has happened to me at Costco, Walmart, Target, and even local franchises like Meijers and Woodmans. Before you ask no I do not try to wear colors that match the store employees in fact I try to do the opposite. I will literally be wearing all black in a store and someone will come up and ask me where something is thinking I work at the store and know.

If I know where the item is, I obviously try to help out and give them general directions and if I don’t I apologize say I don’t work there and that I typically don’t shop there much either.

Well I was at my favorite local Target last month, in the beauty isle stocking up on my favorite body wash and a middle aged woman comes up to me and very rudely ask me where an item was.

In her defense I was moving body wash out of the way because I couldn’t find the scent I liked and wanted to make sure it wasn’t behind another scent so maybe I looked like I was stocking shelves. And I happened to be wearing a red shirt.

I smiled and apologized saying I wasn’t sure where that item was but before I could say I didn’t work here she cut me off and said it was my job and I needed to look it up for her. I dropped my smile and told her ‘that’s not my job’ to which she scoffed and said my manager would hear of this. And I said “look I don’t work here, so I can’t help you” she of course scoffed again and walked away and I went back to picking up my things before heading to the self checkout.

I paid for my stuff and went on my merry way. Before leaving I heard someone very loudly call out “Excuse me!” Right as I was walking out the door. I turned my head and noticed the woman who stopped me earlier was at the returns desk, but I kept walking.

“Where do you think you’re going!?” Someone behind me yelled and I turned around, receipt in hand to show I paid for my stuff.

“You realize you are not in proper uniform! You do know that’s grounds for termination?!” This woman in a target shirt, presumably a manager looks me up and down in my red shirt and shorts and at this point I’m dying laughing inside. How can she not tell that I don’t actually work here?

“I didn’t know I needed a uniform to shop here?” Was my answer. Yes I know it probably would have been better to tell her I didn’t work for her but I found the whole thing so funny and kinda wanted to see how far this manager would go.

“You think you’re so funny don’t you!” The manager said to me in response.

To which I shrugged and said “well I don’t work for you so I don’t know why it matters”

Her angry face fell and she looked me up and down again. My purse in hand car keys out, bag full of stuff and receipt out.

“I am so sorry” she said shocked. “That woman pointed you out and I thought you were someone else”

I shrugged again and said “maybe you should pay more attention to what your actual employees look like so the next time Karen comes and tries to get fired you don’t try to fire someone who doesn’t work here”

She just nodded and turned around. The Karen watched the whole exchange from the doors and a guy around my age walking into target just laughed hysterically as I went to my car triumphantly beating two Karen’s in one day before treating myself to a trip to Micheal’s craft store!

UPDATE: AITA For breaking up with someone who wanted me to choose him over my family

Og post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AITH/s/uCGayd0lbD

To address some of the comments yes I did see it as a red flag, as well as many other things he did. Our relationship was complicated and I kept over looking the red flags in him because I really wanted things to work out. That being said, I don’t think things would ever work out between us and it’s a good thing I got out when I did.

I did not go fully no contact after the breakup. He was a great friend to me despite the red flags and I had hope he could still be a friend. We texted a bit for the first two days after the breakup, everything was friendly and cordial until he ended up leaving me on read. I thought things were over. My friends who haven’t known the full story until now all confirm that I was right in not thinking I was an asshole.

We still have each other on social media and can see what we are up to. Neither of us have ever been big on posting yet recently, he has been posting every day on his socials, and most posts directed at me. At first I thought I was being delusional but as the posts keep happening it’s getting too obvious to brush off. He isn’t saying anything bad but he is deliberately trying to get my attention.

I went on a long weekend trip to Florida. A trip that I had told him about before. And although I don’t post often, when I travel I post. This trip was the perfect reset for me. I honestly hadn’t thought about him. On the plane ride back I decided to take a picture of the skyline from the plane window and post it to my story. He was one of the first people to see it. He went on snap typed something in our chat, knowing I’d get the notification but never sent anything.

Originally it pissed me off because it felt like he was trying to bait me. My friends agreed, my friends also made the comments that the way he was trying to get my attention reminded them of things boys in high-school did after a breakup. Which is interesting because wasn’t he the one who said he felt like he was dating a high schooler?

A few days later I went to visit my brothers who live an hour away from me and we saw a show together. Of course I posted a pic of that to my story. And later that night, same thing. I get a notification that he’s typing but nothing gets sent. AGAIN I don’t type back.

In the same night he posts all over his social media, and posts anonymously in one of our local ‘what’s happening’ FB groups asking which bar is fun to go too and in the comments he is replying to everyone about getting girls in a derogatory manner. At first I thought I was being delusional and that it wasn’t him until all his friends, most of which don’t live in town, start commenting too. Needless to say, if that all didn’t put a bad taste in my mouth this next thing definitely did.

Q is from a smaller town nearby and I have a close family friend who happened to know about him and our break up and she has family in that town. She mentioned him to her family member and man did the truth come out.

Turns out he hid some very important things about his life, lied about his family, he lied about his college situation, and so many other things that had me relating to him.

I feel like a total idiot for defending him to my family and friends. The whole time he was just telling me what I wanted to hear. And sure there are two sides to every story but there are also to many receipts to shoot down. The hardest pill for me to swallow in all this is throughout our whole ‘relationship’ he claimed he had never felt the feelings he had for me, for anyone else and even told me he loved me yet he has done absolutely nothing to try and win me back.

I really feel that if he loves me he would put more effort into winning me back instead of baiting me with high school tricks to get me pissed enough to text him.

AITA for breaking up with someone who wanted me to choose him over my family?

I, 23F started hanging out with a guy I met 24M, we will call him Q. We hit it off right away and quickly became a part of each others lives. We were contacting each other every day and even started becoming romantically involved.

I would say we were a situationship or maybe a fling. I would have liked to be more with Q but he had issues with meeting my family and was clear about not wanting anything serious. That being said the more we hung out the more serious things started to feel. We told each other everything about our lives.

My parents weren’t to happy about all the time I spent with him especially since we were just ‘friends’ and I was spending multiple days with him. for context my family has always been very involved in my life. In highschool my house was always the go to hang out spot, most of my friends have met my parents on multiple occasions and many of them are close with my parents and siblings. Also I live at home and although I pay my parents rent I feel like it’s the respectful thing to do to tell them where I’m going at night and what time approximately that I’ll be home.

Q felt that this was controlling and that I should be able to come and go as I please. He would often make sarcastic jokes about my ‘curfew’ which honestly was a red flag to me. When I would complain to Q about little annoyances of my housing situation he always blew them up into much bigger issues and said I needed to get out of there, he lived in an apartment and offered me a place to stay multiple times. To be honest I thought he was joking about it.

One night over text he asked me why I always tell him I won’t move in with him. I told him I had many reasons, for one I’m okay with my situation living at home, I get to save a lot of money and I really want to buy a small house when I’m ready to move out, I’m five minutes away from my job, I’m not financially ready to rent an apartment (nor do I want to rent) and I also don’t think it’s smart to move in with someone who I’ve only known for 8 months.

Not to mention he lives in a small one bedroom apartment in a not so great part of town, my siblings and parents didn’t even really like all the time I was spending over at his apartment knowing that the complex had a shady reputation and wasn’t very safe to be.

I personally was not going to give up my nice comfy bed and huge closet for a small couch and living out of a suitcase in a man’s apartment. This sent us into a huge fight. He criticized my actions, my parents, he called me a pushover and said I never stick up for myself. He said dating me was like dating an High schooler and he said my reasons for not wanting to move in with him were silly and he had a solution for every excuse I gave to him.

The more I tried to explain why I didn’t want to move out right this second, the more he doubled down that I needed to. I told him that if I moved in with him I’d ruin the relationship with my family, and possibly even have cut ties from them and I wasn’t ready for that. Like I said earlier my siblings, two older brothers who had never met him but didn’t like him based on the very nice version of him I had told them, and my parents who didn’t feel he treated me in the way I deserve are a huge part of my life and protective of me. Yes they can be overbearing at times but it all comes from a place of love. we are a very close knit family unit and we always have been.

When I told Q that I wasn’t ready to cut off my family, he told me that I should if I ever wanted to be with him in a serious way. This comment pissed me off to the point where I stopped responding to him and ended up breaking things off the next morning.

I know my family can be overbearing, but they are my family, they are supportive of me moving out on my own when I’m ready and they are all clear that he’s is not good enough for me. But Q thinks I’m the asshole and I didn’t have the right to break things off. AITA?
