I’m 18 and I’ve been trying to learn Luau since 2024.
I didn’t even start with a PC. I started on my phone. I saved up money to get a PC, then had to learn how to use a keyboard and mouse from scratch — I learned the correct position for keyboard 6 months ago. I switched my whole life around to make this work because I’m trying to make a game I actually believe in.
Every tutorial says the same thing — “just get in the game and code.” But that doesn’t make sense to me. How do you code when you don’t even know what the words mean?
Let me list what I’ve already tried:
• Finished CodeAcademy
• Looked up every term I came across
• Used AI for a while — only gave me answers, didn’t actually teach me anything
• Same with Google searches
• Watched more YouTube tutorials than I can count
• Built small stuff like doors and coin pickups — they worked but I don’t remember how I made them now
• Tried jumping straight into a real project (a punching system for a battlegrounds game) and it’s not clicking
People keep saying “you have to fail without someone catching you” and “you need to make at least 50 mistakes before it sticks.”
But here’s the part nobody answers — how do you fix an error if you don’t have the memory of fixing it before? You can’t fix something you’ve never learned how to fix. Tutorials don’t show you mistakes. AI just hands you the answer. Docs show you the right way the first time.
So I’m asking seriously. Not for tutorial links. Not for “just keep practicing bro.”
Actually — how did YOU learn Luau? What genuinely worked for you that wasn’t clicking before?
