Does Gaster feel too “fanon” to anyone else?

I, like all of you, am eagerly waiting for Gaster to appear in… any way, shape, or form in Toby’s work. His established lore is quite interesting, and the ambiguity of his fate is obviously the main hook when it comes to his character.

But after 10 years of fan speculations, fan art of a design that isn’t even confirmed to be Gaster, and just being crammed into a bunch of AUs for no real reason aside from just being there, it kinda ruins the idea of finally meeting him.

I’m not saying I want him to stay a mystery of course. It’d be quite disappointing for Toby to ditch Gaster after 10 long years. It’s just that the over-speculation of who he *could* be has tarnished the core character in my opinion.

Not to mention that in the aforementioned AUs, I often just ditched them as soon as he was shoehorned in, because I knew for a fact that he’d be the main focus for the rest of the story. Nothing against these talented artists, but I want my UT/DR AUs to be focused on characters that we’ve seen grow.

Does anyone else agree, or am I just rambling for no reason?

Edit: I just wanna clarify so there’s no confusion. I know why all of these interpretations exist; I’m not going after the fanbase for “ruining a character” when we don’t even know what his deal is. My opinion is that after seeing so many of these fan concepts, Gaster himself feels like a fanmade character, thus would feel weird to finally show himself. I’m sure not many others think the same way, but that’s just my take.

How Are Semitones Utilized Correctly?

I’m asking a variety of smaller questions with this overarching one, so feel free to drop any info.

I’m looking into what makes Toby Fox’s music so good, and something I constantly hear about is that he shifts the semitones of a song and/or instruments.

Upon watching some “tutorials” on what semitones are, all they state is that they’re the individual keys on the piano, so I’m assuming changing the semitone shifts what key the melody is in.

So how do you use this coherently?

Is this used to change a melody that was out of key into the key you wanna use? Is this how the Once Upon a Time motif fits into multiple keys?

Some of the instruments in Toby’s songs are pitched down, while others are pitched up. Why? And how do you know when the pitched-up instrument works with the pitched-down?

I could go on and on, but I won’t bore you with all that.

Edit: So apparently semitones aren’t what I’m looking for, at least not entirely. What I’m actually trying to look into is microtones and how much cents an instrument is altered by.

How would I go about coding a board game system?

I’m hopping into GameMaker for the first time, and I’m trying to make a board-game style game. While I don’t know much about coding in this language, I’m decently confident I can get the basic mechanics like collecting cards and rolling the dice.

What I need help with is actually moving on the board. When the player rolls the dice, I want them to be able to draw a path along the board, reaching out as far as the number on the die. Once they confirm their path, they will move along that path, and if the player presses X in the midst of moving, they can end their turn prematurely, which would be beneficial for landing on desired tiles.

Attached to this post is a visual representation of this idea that I sketched in like a minute. I’d love to hear about any functions that would yield this result.

So after struggling for weeks with trying to get my mix right, along with fiddling the EQs and such, I’m in a sticky spot. Or I was, until I realized that for the context of my game, technically the songs I should be making should be 8-bit.

I can make a good melody, and I have some practice with chiptune, but I wanna know how people go about the actual mixing part. Do people fiddle with the EQs and panning, or do they leave everything alone due to old consoles not using them?

This is a theme for a (mostly) calm and smart character for my game. I’m mainly posting this because when I composed this song in FL, it sounded pretty full and upbeat. But when I exported it, it sounded more vacant. It kept the original spirit, but it was quieter.

But after listening to this version for a while, I’ve grown to like it. I’d love to hear y’all’s opinions on the mixing and such, to see if it sounds compressed in any way.
