If you are renting a car, be careful with pre-pay fuel option

I pre-booked a car from Thrifty at the airport. When I arrived at the counter, the employee told me “my booking comes with the *Fuel Purchase Option* which means I don’t have to return the car at full tank”. I didn’t think much because I wanted to pick up the vehicle as soon as possible and that sounded very convenient. Then I see there’s a charge of full tank on my pickup receipt. I asked them will I get charged less if the car still has remaining fuel in the tank when I return it? And they answered yes.

I later discovered that this is a completely scam.

First of all, I didn’t select any add-ons when I was booking the rental. The employer used false wordings to confuse me into believing that my booking had already included that pre-pay fuel option and then charge me right at the counter. Later I found the receipt writes “I accept the pre-pay fuel option”. I DID NOT. They made me believe it’s there already.

Then they totally lied about the charge. You will not get any reimbursement for remaining fuel in the tank. That basically means I paid for a full tank at a premium price (there’s literally a Costco right next to the airport) and it is extremely hard to precisely calculate the mileage and so you can return the car at a nearly empty tank.

Anyway DO NOT ACCEPT ANY PRE-PAY FUEL OPTION. These are completely scam. If you are told that your booking comes with it by default, be sure to opt out.

Someone else completed my abandoned self-checkout order with my saved payment

If you use in-store code for payment at self-checkout, NEVER walk away without canceling the transaction.

Yesterday I started a self-checkout order, scanned my Amazon in-store QR code, but abandoned it halfway because I needed employee help + had alcohol anyway. I then paid normally at a cashier lane.

Later, I found someone had completed the abandoned self-checkout order using my linked card, and my card was charged for a second order that wasn't supposed to exist. That person didn't add anything more. I checked the electric receipt on my account, and everything was just what I bought. I still haven't figured out why someone would do that.

Already contacted customer service and requested a refund. I know it's my fault for leaving an unfinished order like that. Just wanted to share the story, and if you saved your card in your Amazon account, be aware that you don't leave your unfinished order at self-checkout. I actually see people do that sometimes. Apparently, anyone standing there could just finish the order.
