I'm a cranky, kooky hermit - and I don't care for free stuff

I don't know who it was that said that we're social creatures, but I'm not one of them. I can go for weeks without any more interaction than paying for stuff at a checkout counter, and I'm entirely happy and content with that amount of peopleing.

I'm around people all day long at work, and I hate it. I play games to get away from humanity for a while. So when I visit the Anomaly it's because I need something - not because I want to hang around people some more.

I know about Abandoned Mode, and I play that quite a lot (with a lot of self-imposed restrictions ot make things harder / more interesting).

But sometimes I want to do missions or do a themed run that requires a populated universe, and that involves going to the Anomaly for one reason or another.

I get that people like giving stuff away because it makes them feel good or for some other reason they find beneficial. But I don't want it - I usually just delete it out of my inventory and move on.

It's not that I don't appreciate the gesture, it's that I didn't do anything to earn it. I don't like being on the dole / getting stuff I didn't work to earn myself / feeling like I owe someone with no way to pay them back. And people giving me stuff breaks the immersion, reminds me that NMS is actually an online / offline capable MMO and not a true "alone in space" game.

Is there a way to keep people from giving me stuff? Some kind of way to block donations / interactions?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I play on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Edit 2: After feedback, I'm going to try turning off Network Play. I had turned it on because I thought it was necessary for uploading named planets / discoveries / etc. But I'll turn it off and see if that works. Thanks for the advice, all. Much appreciated.

Crashing at Base Computer on Nintendo Switch after 6.36 update

Updated to 6.36 last night on the Switch. Now whenever I try to access a Base Computer the game locks up. It hangs at the point where the BC's image is on the left and where the menu / image should be on the right-hand side of the screen there's just a blued-out area, and the cursor is frozen in the middle of the screen. I have to use the Home button to get out to the Switch's main desktop and force the game off to reset and try again.

It's the same problem in all my saves.

I dropped a report at Hello Games' bug report site, but was wondering if anyone else here has run into the issue just in case it's not caused by the 6.36 update and it's something else I'm doing wrong.

I discovered NMS about a month ago and have been playing on the Switch. Loving it - especially Abandoned mode, with self-imposed restrictions (no buying, no starter ship, etc.). I haven't even really begun the main storyline yet, just loving the hell out of exploring on foot and learning the mechanics of the game.

I wish there were a way to turn off the HUD, but know the Lat/Long of a destination waypoint and keep the compass available. This would be more realistic as far as basic navigational aids is concerned when the HUD is turned off. I'm aware that you can see your current Lat/Long when you pull up the visor, but I'm talking about a destination's Lat/Long coordinates as well as a compass.

Today we have simple N-E-S-W cardinal directions displayed on our vehicle's rear view mirror. And - being a military retiree - I've never, ever received directions to "put your pack on and go that-a-way until you reach the endpoint that's a 10 hour ruck +/- a few minutes in that direction". I've always been given a set of coordinates and a map+compass at a minimum. Even USAF pilots have a 1:250,000 or 1:500,000 scale map as part of their survival and evasion kits. The 500k scale would cover an area about the size of the US state of Virginia.

To me, it would seem like basic bare-bones tech to have a compass mounted in the helmet and some way to tell where you're at vs where a destination point is in relation to the geographic poles and equator of a planet that you're on. How else would a HUD system know how to display a holographic icon representing your destination on the faceplate? I mean, what's the point of being given a target waypoint if you don't even know what the coordinates are? (Unless I'm missing some feature in the game that does indeed tell me the coordinates, and I just haven't discovered it yet?)

Roleplay-wise, if you've crashed and have nothing but your Exosuit / empty rucksack, a multi-tool, a compass, and some scratch paper for taking notes - having maps of the area that could be found in shelters and other buildings would seem to make sense to me. It's realistic: military posts have maps, archeological digs have maps, lone outposts of all kinds have maps, etc.

The only times you wouldn't have such a map is in a system that was never discovered by anyone of any race, and therefore there's no maps that have ever been made (and there wouldn't be any buildings, either). But in such a case, you'd still have at least a direction and distance when you've been given a target waypoint.

I get that navigational data and other mechanisms are meant to represent this in-game, however, it still boggles my mind that the player wouldn't receive coordinates in some fashion in the log or displayed on screen at time of receipt so the player can write them down.

So either a mod - or a Hello Games update to have the option for a compass and coordinate system - would be an ideal option for when the HUD is disabled, IMHO. It would really increase the immersion factor for those who like to play without HUD.

Regardless - still love the game, even without this small piece of realism. Solid 9.95/10 for me.
