Early inheritance (they are still alive, just gifting early due to inheritance tax)

#TLDR I got gifted 750k, got myself a house and 4 BTL. I have more cash coming my way (definitely 60k, may be 180k by the end of 2027). What should I do?

East Midlands

- 320k main residence, now worth 370k

- 140k rented 950/mo

- 143k rented 950/mo

- 146k - under renovation - to be let for 1200/mo

- 140kish terraced in bought STC - predict 950/mo

Prices include solicitor fees, SDLT and surveys.

None of those were mortgaged other than no 4. I had taken out a mortgage for less than 50% LTV from main residence to buy the 4th let. Rent is a bit over 150% of installments.

I have a job with defined benefit but once my income goes into 40% I'll aggressively pay into my SIPP. I'm 28 and I think of having kids and leaving work (a break until they are 12 so I can claim NI 2 for taking care of children) to stay with them so my family history of kids being raised by nannies and never seeing hard working parents doesn't repeat.

I know people are much against the BTL nowadays but I had so issues so far and the properties pay any maintenance and fixes with some money left over. That's the reason why I thought to take a mortgage out and get a 4th one.

Nevertheless, I am getting more money coming my way in a few months/next year. I can either buy a next house or dip my toe into investments. I have SP500 in my SIPP, some guilts and some AI stocks but a thought of putting a full house price into ISA/SIPP and investing it scares me. I would probably do SP500 or gilts. Or should I stick to houses since I was lucky so far?

Renting to partners family in unusual circumstances - can they claim UC?

Long story short, I know usually renting to close family members makes you ineligible for housing benefit... HOWEVER the parents of my cohabitating partner are getting evicted S8 (they paid rent always but they were naughty in other ways...)

  1. They are used to a laughably low rent that wasn't increased for the last 11 years and they claim full UC to cover £650 and pay £100 out of pocket

  2. No savings because they are lazy bastards (3 adults at the house, only 1 is working. Well.. now other 2 started because they are scared about what will happen to them)

  3. Because of what they did they won't get a council property and will be considered as intentionally homeless so no help with emergency rehousing

No one will rent to them after S8 and without savings/good income.

I am in a process of buying a rental property for myself. I am happy to rent to them if they can cover the market rent (1100 so they won't be able to cover it if they continue as they are and lest be honest - they will) so I thought it's either for them to get a lodger (property has a large ensuite - could get ~500) or they have to get the UC housing benefit (~600)

If I rent to them because noone else will, can they claim UC? Because to me it's clear that it's not to do some sort of UC scam, it's because they are facing consequences of their actions and I just can't stand idly by while my partner gets white hair from stressing about their future (he did cut himself away from them but he has a strong sense of responsibility and care... )

Any advice will be appreciated!

Electric bypass (maybe?)

Hi, looking for advice/brainstorming

#TLDR My partner's parents installed a copper wire in the electric meter and the agency found out during the ECIR renewal. What to expect next?

My partner's parents live in a property that is being sold. My partner lives with me but he is probably still on the tenancy contract. His parents don't speak English. The agency sent out an electrician to do ECIR and he found a copper wire in the electric box which now the agency suspects was there to bypass and steal electricity.

My partner rung his dad to ask WTF and dad denied doing anything. Partner then rung the agency and they showed him a picture of the wire. Partner rung his dad back to ask WTF and dad admitted that they had some problems with electricity a few months back so he made a DIY fix. My partner knows that his dad is skilled enough to actually install something that would steal electricity and is not sure if he trust his dad that he didn't do it and it was just a fix that the agency failed to provide those months ago. (It is true that they had not fixed the issue still)

I offered to help and tried to calm my partner down but he is really upset and scared that his dad is in big trouble. When he rung the agency they threatened to send police to break the doors down (?) which I found ridiculous because the agency has the key.

I rung the agency and offered to drive to the property to open the doors for them so no one has to pay for a broken door, they said they'll give me a ring and said that yes they'd ring police to break in if they'd fail to gain entry but also said they have the key.

I thought they'd ring police to report abstracting electricity?

I offered to help but to be honest I don't really know what I can do other than open the doors for the agency. It's not the first time his parents were playing stupid games and winning stupid prices. They are in a queue for a council house. I'm guessing they won't get one now and will land on the street when the landlord sells? They are paying around half of the market rent because they lived in that house for over 11 years... They can't afford to pay more because out of 3 adults living there (mom dad and sister) only dada is working full-time. The other two are seasonal, sister only started after being a volunteer for ages instead of getting a job that pays...

Honestly.. it pains me to see my partner trying to help them but it starts to look like they are just lazy and don't care to do the work themselves.

Any advice? What to expect from the police/agency?

Fines?

Should we just cut them off so they feel the consequences and hopefully learn?

EDIT; the cable was in the meter, connecting the meter tail with the meter. Electricians were out and discovered that the dad tried to hide what he did and removed the cable despite partner telling him DO NOT REMOVE THE CABLE. so now there's no evidence that he was not stealing the electricity. The supplier will be out to carry out their own investigation and my partner considers blowing up family bridges

I am now unfortunately suspecting that the dad wanted to stop paying for the electricity and did what he did. Then lied to my partner stating that the display stopped working and he tried to fix it. Apparently they stop working when you tamper with them, which would explain why he ripped it out before the electricians came to investigate.

They'll reap what they sew...

MTD softwares

Hi,

I am trying to find a MTD approved software that would let me do my accounting myself for free for 3 properties.

I tried Clear books but they want a fee for adding houses and then connect a bank account that additionally takes 1% for each transaction connected to the account. I find it being very restrictive if you just want to manually add transactions..

Then I read about the alternatives but they all have hidden fees. "it's free! Except if you want to use it you need to pay monthly"

Any softwares that let you just manually keep track of expenses and income and still be MTD compliant?

LTD set up and struck off with no in- or outgoings. Any paperwork?

Hi

Looking for an advice. I have set up a company last year, I decided I don't want to use an LTD anymore and filled up "strike off"

Do I still need to file for the LTD if the accounts started with 0 and ended with 0?
