How do you make a character feel as if they are out of place using only their outfit?

Context: I’m a fanfic writer tasked with redesigning outfits for a certain cast in my story! One of these characters, when introduced, is intentionally designed poorly because she doesn’t belong in the role she’s in. The more I look at her, though, the more I hate how I went through with it. I want her to look good, but still have people look at her and think “this isn’t quite right…” Ideally, foreshadow that she isn’t who she pretends to be.

So far, I’m thinking of using asymmetry in her costume, but that’s about all I got… the main theme of her outfit is that it must be an orange color palette, and be a mix of a train conductor and old school movie ticket master. She notably had a large prop microphone that is bright green, but I think I might change that to a different color once I figure out her outfit.

Any and all advice is appreciated!!
