so I used the randomizer password at the beginning and only turned on the encounters (global, similar strength and static pokemon) and not any opponents or stats or moves etc. but despite ticking similar strength gift pokemon (eg. the kricketot or the budew) and the pokesnax mons are not being randomized. what am I missing?

title basically. I can't figure out how to take damage so the thorns thing kicks in and then transfer them over to the opponent before I take damage since counter from his recommended die only triggers if my defense is HIGHER but I need it to be lower so I take damage and actually apply thorns so I'm pretty sure I'm misunderstanding something
