My first big pull from Chrome 2026!
Traded it back to the store for the buyback, wanted to work more toward my base set instead of line it with crazy hits.

Hey guys, need some help. This is a tisas commander in 9mm. I’ll seldomly get this issue with extraction when shooting normally. It feels like the slide doesn’t get the casing out before trying to send forward another round, requiring me to lock the slide back and drop the mag to clear the unspent round and then I can remove the casing.
I’m shooting 124gr NATO rounds, so it’s not bulk Luger that’s just underpowered. When not having this issue, I did also have a couple instances of failure to hold open when no more rounds in the mag. Is this a symptom of mags needing to be replaced? This gun was purchased brand new and nothing has been changed parts-wise. The mags are Mecgar. This occurred more when I was using Luger 114gr so I’ve since stopped shooting that in this gun.
Anyone got any insight on this one? I don’t want to replace the gun or anything as it’s a great shooter, this issue is just something I’d like to work through and get past.
EDIT: I’ve looked into the extractor like you guys suggested and it was definitely not super tight on the casings. I gave it a good bend inwards and it’s definitely holding onto a snap cap way tighter now.
I know there’s so many other options I can choose from with the innovations in technology since the R9’s inception, but with a budget of about 500 bucks is the R9 still a good option? I don’t need it to be whisper quiet, it’ll go on a 9mm PCC I’ve assembled and probably live there permanently. I know it’s more or less universally praised as a great budget can. My only main concern is it being noted as being pretty gassy, but it’s a dated design so I can understand that. Is there any better option for my 500ish budget, or should I just run with it?
Edit: I’m super appreciative of all the responses, guys. It sounds to me like the R9 is absolutely still good to go- just submitted for the order, super excited to get it in! Now to remember if my barrel is 1/2x28 or 36….
