People can put on such a warm act just to get what they want.

People can put on such a warm act just to get what they want.

I’m writing this on my drive back from the beach, still feeling uneasy about what just happened.

I met someone while I was walking along the shore tonight. He seemed really kind at first. We talked about the ocean, sunset trips, listened carefully to every word I said. He laughed at my jokes and seemed genuinely interested in my life. I thought I’d just made a nice new acquaintance.

Slowly, he started making comments with romantic hints. I told him clearly I wasn’t looking for anything romantic. The whole vibe shifted instantly. His smile faded. The warmth was gone. He became cold and distant right away.

Looking back, all that nice chatting and attention was never genuine. He was just putting on a friendly face hoping I’d be interested in him. I never imagined such a quick change in attitude once he realized there was no chance. It’s disappointing how many people don’t want simple, honest conversation without an ulterior motive.

What’s something you unexpectedly lost after divorce, other than your partner?

My divorce was final about 2 years ago. I prepared myself for splitting things and living alone.
What I never expected to lose was our mutual friends. Most of them only knew me as part of a couple, and slowly faded away.

What surprised you that you lost after your marriage ended?
