SCTV vs. Kids in the Hall vs. SNL — which was actually the best?

I’m from the U.S. and grew up watching these shows in the ’70’s-90’s and I am curious about how Canadians rank them. They were all great shows in different ways and as a kid I remember my dad waking me up to watch SNL and SCTV as they were broadcasted very late at night in the US. I understand SNL isn’t Canadian but Lorne Michales is Canadian and many of the SNL cast have been Canadian.

If you had to choose one as the best overall 70’s-90’s sketch-comedy show, which would you pick?

🇨🇦SCTV
🇨🇦 Kids in the Hall
🇺🇸 Saturday Night Live

And, more importantly, why?

Bonus points for naming the one sketch or character that made it great.

Did anyone own a van with cool art on it or know anyone with it?

I remember as a kid thinking these were so cool!

Singaporeans what are you listening to?

So I’m from the US and have lived in Singapore for about 3 years. Like most I have my earbuds in on my commutes on the MRT and bus. However, I’m listening to my favorite music rocking out. I’m always tapping my foot or tapping my fingers with the beat. Probably why no one sits next to me… Lol.. When I look at other people around me no one is moving or showing any indication they are listening to music. I always have this feeling you’re listening to political speeches or something. Please tell me what you’re listening to or what music you have playing in your commutes to give me hope. Let me know if you’re secretly rocking out and what you’re rocking out to?

Edit: You all listen to great music! Now I know you’re rocking! Haha.. I love seeing what you’re listening to here and giving the ones I don’t know a listen. My music taste is all over the place like most of you so this is great. Thanks again for sharing.

Who still sometimes thinks they are 20 in their minds?

So I’m 57 and still feel like I want to do things I did in my 20’s. I was joking with my wife that when I finally retire I want to start kick boxing, ride dirt bikes and work out. She just shakes her head, gives me this laugh and side eye stare.. Lol… Do you still feel like you can do “young” things? Of course I would have to do all this after I take my afternoon nap.

Edit: Love these comments! They are cracking me up. Thanks so much for sharing in solidarity!

An 80’s Canadian band question

Ok so I’m from the US, grew up in the 80’s and love music. I’m always searching for new music or I should say I’m searching for new music I like that I have never heard before. The music may be old or new if it sounds good I’ll listen to it and add it to a mix.

Recently I found a Canadian band called Chalk Circle. Apparently they were somewhat big in the 80’s. I grew up listening to 80’s music and never heard of them. Some of the songs they made are really catchy. Anyway, does anyone remember these guys and were they actually big in Canada? If you remember them what level did they get to. Were they selling out arenas or just small clubs? Just curious about them.

Any other cool Canadian bands I should take a listen to? Obviously I have heard of Rush, Nickleback, Arcade fire, barenaked ladies, Loverboy, the tragically hip and bands like that but any other lesser known Canadian bands? Thanks so much.

Edit: Man, you all have really given me some great bands to listen to. Thank you so much! This will keep me busy for a while. I thought I would get like one or two bands but you all are on fire! This is awesome!

Did anyone fly internationally as a kid with family in the 70’s-80’s?

I remember in 1979 I was 10 yrs old and my family traveled from Virginia to Hong Kong after my mother received an inheritance. She said she wanted to do something special with it that my sister and I would always remember and she was right. I still remember so much of that trip. We had never done anything like it before so it was very exciting. I remember we flew on Pan Am and TWA airlines. I remember just being amazed at everything and loved flying on the planes. Anyone else have memories of international travel as a kid?
