Are Ficht outboards really that bad?

I am seriously considering buying a 2001 Triton SF-21. It checks all the boxes that I have been looking for including the price tag. After going to see the boat and hearing it run hooked up to the garden hose, I went home and did some research. It appears these Ficht Envinrude outboards are notorious for problems. Serious problems. Is this narrative overblown? Is there a test I can give it during a test drive that would make me feel better about the purchase? I need some advice. Thanks in advance.

Last year I bought a 2017 Titan with 60K miles on it. A year later it's starts "ticking". This spring I had the oil changed and the coolant and transmission flushed because I'm a responsible truck owner. I mentioned the "tick" to the service mgr and he said they would check it out. A couple hours later he called with the bad news... #7 cylinder scoring.

Any advice on where to find a new short block? And how much is this going to cost me in the end? Is it worth talking to somebody from Nissan? I love this damn truck.
