We will be visiting Maui for the second time August 26-Sept 6. Do any of y’all have good, credible resources for tracking the possible storms? What about advice on how to prepare for a possible hurricane while on vacation?
Some information about our trip: we will be staying about.75 miles up country from the beach in Kaanapali. I plan to pack a few flashlights, a jet boil (will buy fuel once we land) some no perishable food, a few games, and some candles. I’ll buy matches and water once we arrive. Are there any suggestions for apps that give accurate weather alerts or emergency notifications. I’m from a very temperate climate on west coast US. Please give me any tips or answer questions I didn’t even think to ask.

Hi Redding. My family member (late 50s F) needs to start weightlifting for medical reasons like bone density. She has absolutely zero idea what to do. So here’s where you come in: can you suggest me a gym that has good free weights and MOST IMPORTANTLY good personal trainers. I love weightlifting and I have been really consistent for 3 years now. I feel and look better now than I did 10 yrs ago. But alas I live 8 hours away. She currently has a Planet Fitness membership, no shade to them, I just don’t know if their trainers are the best and she needs a solid trainer.

My older teen son DOES NOT EVER read for fun. This summer I am instituting a rule of reading 30 minutes each morning before we do anything else. I’ll start with 15 minutes and gradually build. I asked him what he would like to read and he said “something like Hatchet”. He loves fishing and camping and survival TV shows. Please suggest me a book!!
