Is it worth it to learn Romanian?
Hello everyone. I am a Greek Msc geologist who is going to move for 4 months at Bucharest for his internship. Because of that,I was thinking about whether to learn the language or not. My way of logic is "you are a foreigner up until you learn the language" pretty much. But more than that, I would like to learn the language to better communicate there, to not be left out socialy, and to be frank, to know what they really say about me. In Greece we have a student from South Africa and I see how he has it with us, and I wouldn't like to live the same in Romania. I also want to learn it to make a good impression at my supervisors there, with me working permanantely there in mind (if I play my cards correctly that is)
On the other hand, I don't know if it's worth the effort. I mean, it's all a gamble at this point. I may never return to Romania, for all I know, so it would be all for nothing. Also, will I be able to communicate by using only English?
Let it be known, also, that I am aware that I won't be fluent enough even if I started lessons tomorrow, but I could continue my lessons there, if I ever started them.
So what's your opinion?
