Help! What would you do?

Several months ago, I hosted an outdoor party and in preparation, pulled up all of my English Ivy. It’s a rental and they filled the heavy slope so they wouldn’t have to maintain it, but it was about 50/50 weeds that were choking out the English Ivy. It was one if the 4 identified vines that compete to take over the entire yard.
As a result, ALL OF THE THINGS that the vines were preventing from growing erupted with a vengeance this summer.
You can roast me, lesson learned.

I’m in zone 7A/7B— swampy, muggy, fertile. My landscape slopes. I’ve identified eastern poison ivy, Chinese yam, Asian bittersweet, ground cherries, tree of heaven, etc. there are a ton of orange lilies that pop up for the summer. They’re alright, but I genuinely dread yardwork because it seems impossible except for constantly weed pulling.

I’d like a natural ground cover that chokes out some of this, like the English ivy did. A gardener recommended crimson clover as a ground cover, but I’m fighting a losing battle.

Help!

Phenomenal Storytelling behind the real “Molly” Brown— MFM episode 411

I’m re-listening to old episodes of my favorite podcast, My Favorite Murder, and the Unsinkable Molly Brown might be one of my top three favorite episodes.

So much so, that it reengaged my Titanic obsession.

The way that Karen tells story is top-tier. I’d never been that interested in her before, but her whole life, before and after— is truly fascinating. The Titanic was just one chapter in her book.

Linked it here (webpage) so that we could nerd out together, the story starts at about 53-54 mins in.

How would you style this?

Snagged this fun little gem from a vintage shop, but I’ve never worn it because I cannot figure out how to style it, I’m talking full outfit and jewelry. I tried both black and white shirts underneath and the both looked odd.

Pardon the wrinkles.

“Extraordinary” Ordinary Biographies

Up until a couple of years ago, I exclusively read/listened to suspense— high drama mysteries, domestic thrillers, with bit of sci-fi as a break from those. I noticed its impact on my hyper-vigilance and decided to deviate and listened to a lot of podcasts.

Podcast-wise, I started listening to The Memory Palace by Nate DiMeo, Snap Judgement, Radiolab, etc.

I read more historical fiction novels that featured strong female protagonists:
-All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
-The Women by Kristin Hannah
-Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon
-The Alice Network by Kate Quinn
-Keeper of the Stars by Jojo Moyes, etc.

These were lovely, but recently shifted to biographies. I’m currently reading Grandma Gatewood (Ben Montgomery)
-loved Tara Westover’s Educated.
-Homeschooled by Stefan Merril Block
-A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
-To Shake the Sleeping Self by Jedidiah Jenkins.

Any suggestions of biographies about “anything-but-ordinary” historical folks? I like gumption/tenacity/endurance/journeys

Need local donation places

Our credit card was compromised- we found out when we received three massive window air conditioning units shipped to us that we had never ordered. Luckily, there was only one other errant charge in addition to these, so we were able to catch it quickly.

We contacted the company and they do not want the air conditioning units back.

We would like to donate them to an agency that works with people that are in need. We do not want to post them on next-door nor donate them to Goodwill/the Salvation Army. We would prefer to bring them directly to a non-profit. Recently released formerly incarcerated people and migrant communities are two near and dear causes.

Can anyone recommend agencies like this in the district?
