I've noticed that whenever I mention being disappointed that the X4 Pro doesn't charge via USB-C, I get a lot of pushback. Some people have been surprisingly hostile about it—even calling me "sad" or "pathetic" for not liking the pogo adapter and saying I "live my life in fear of losing a dongle."

That got me wondering what the broader community actually thinks, outside of the comment sections where people are understandably excited about the X4 Pro.

Literally every device I own charges with USB-C. My phone, earbuds, controller, laptop, X4, battery packs—everything. I don't want another proprietary charging cable or dongle that only exists for one device.

The biggest issue isn't using the adapter at home. It's everything else.

If I throw my X4 into a backpack for a trip and forget the charging adapter, it's no big deal if the device uses USB-C—I can walk into almost any convenience or electronics store in the world and buy a replacement cable. I can't do that with a proprietary pogo adapter. If I lose it, I have to order another one and wait for it to be shipped. If I'm hostel hopping in South America for a few months, I'm basically out of luck.

Since I only charge an e-reader every few weeks, it's exactly the kind of accessory that's easy to misplace.

I completely understand why some people like the magnetic connector. It's quick, convenient, and probably reduces wear on the charging contacts. Those are legitimate advantages.

For me, though, USB-C's universality outweighs those benefits. It's enough that I'll happily keep using my original X4 instead of upgrading. I still love the device, and I'm hoping that whatever comes after the X4 Pro—maybe the S4 or another future model—returns to USB-C.

I'm not trying to convince anyone they're wrong. I'm genuinely curious where the community lands on this. Is the magnetic adapter a feature you prefer, or would you rather have plain old USB-C?

P.S. Please don't try to convince me that the dongle is "no big deal" and that I should buy the X4 Pro anyway. It's okay if it doesn't bother you—that's genuinely great. But it's a dealbreaker for me, and that's okay too.

Not every product has to be for every person. I already own two of the original X4s, and absolutely love them. I'll happily keep using it until XTEInk releases something that better fits what I'm looking for. I'm just interested in hearing where everyone else stands on the USB-C vs. pogo adapter question, not debating whether my preference is "wrong."

Just wanted to put out a quick public service announcement so nobody else wastes their morning: There is NO outdoor public viewing or street festival for the World Cup Final happening on 30th Street in North Park today.

​If you’ve seen recent articles, event aggregators, or AI search results pointing to a massive outdoor watch party hosted by North Park Main Street and SoccerCity today from 7 AM to 2 PM, it is a ghost link.

​What happened is that North Park Main Street still has an old page live on their website from the 2018 World Cup Final (which also happened on a Sunday in July). AI web scrapers and automated event sites have been pulling that old data and publishing it as if it's happening today, Sunday, July 19th, 2026.

​I just walked 30th Street up and down—there are no barricades, no stages, and zero event setups. It's just a normal Sunday morning.

If you still want to watch the match in North Park, the local indoor bars on 30th like Bluefoot Bar (the neighborhood soccer staple) or Fairplay will absolutely have the game on at noon, but expect them to be packed inside. If you want an actual massive outdoor festival or official fan zone today, you’ll need to head to Progress Park downtown (the French Market watch party) or the official San Diego FC celebration down at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.

​Don't waste your gas driving down to 30th expecting a street closure. Spread the word!
