How to build for 2 or 3years from now
I know that nothing is promised, and i know that anything can happen or change. But let's say I stay in my current job for 2 or 3 more years. I am already the most senior individual contributor on my team, and I don't think there is growth for me directly on my team beyond just becoming more awesome at my current job. So, I'm looking at targeting different groups at my same (gigantic) company. Which means that I have to go after jobs that are not necessarily an obvious leap.
Does anyone have advice on positioning one's self for this kind of move? Both skill-wise and networking. I look at current job posting and it can be tricky to find the exact right thing, but when I find it i want to be able to smoothly apply. My current boss is ok with this, so i'm not worried about that, but I just am having trouble seeing the path.
Also, I'm not opposed to jumping to management but I'm not quite sure how to get there, short of getting an MBA which I don't really want to do. Advice?
