Married F32 - Golden rules for all newly married and to-be married girls

Posting this from my spam account as I did not want to reveal my identity. I keep reading all these posts almost every other day about how much young women are dealing with and I just sat and typed this out. Did not use GPT at all, but let me know if it's needed.

I'm married for almost 5 years and I got married into a truly conservative family (even wearing sleeveless was not ok! lol) but here are some of the suggestions and learnings which will genuinely help you navigate your marriage better, it applies both to love and arrange marriages.

Newly Married Girls

  1. Set boundaries from day 1. Would they send you home in the first week one? No way, It would hit their reputation more than yours, so they will cave in.
  2. Don’t adjust, make the in-laws adjust. Have a IDGAF attitude.
  3. Let your husband fully be aware that you never signed up for all the drama but just a supportive partner.
  4. Never leave your job, at least not immediately.
  5. Don’t hurry into planned or unplanned pregnancy. Understand family dynamics before even thinking of it. (It only gets worse after baby! Trust me)
  6. Save your mental peace - stop trying to be a good DIL, do not think they are your family, do not get emotionally attached to the in laws. Be practical and cordial with everyone.
  7. Do not be afraid to pack your bags and leave.
  8. Do not involve any third person into your fights and arguments. It should be you and your husband sitting down and talking sorting things. If you guys avoid difficult conversation face to face then go on a long ride in two wheeler and speak your heart out. If that doesn’t work - call when he’s in office, if calling doesn’t work - then text. End goal is you two in same team.
  9. Do not gossip about your new family to anyone. Just like how you are getting used to them, they are trying to understand you too.
  10. Do not give any footage or mental space to any of the in laws or any negative situation, ignore them like they don’t exist (I know it’s difficult but better get used to it).
  11. When someone tries to trigger you, instead of getting triggered - put on your best dress and go out with your friends or your husband and enjoy life. There’s so much more out there instead of wasting your time, energy and everything on them.

Before marriage tips:

  1. Be very clear on what type of family you want to live in - with parents, without parents, same building, same city or whatever it is. If the guy thinks it’s a red flag 🚩 then he is your red flag.
  2. No one’s going to be 100% perfect, but choose your trade offs carefully. Be aware of your partner’s weakness and strengths. If he’s a single child and plus very attached to his parent then he will always choose them over you, be fully aware and then decide.
  3. Let your partner know about your lifestyle before hand explicitly and always be clear on your expectations post marriage.
  4. He should be aware that you are fully capable and will leave if you aren’t valued, loved or feel supported. This indirectly prepared him to take stand for you when needed.
  5. Please be open and honest about your thoughts on pregnancy and child birth beforehand.
  6. Discuss finances, it’s bit controversial but you should be aware of each others savings, assets and loans. Also, my suggestion would be to tell him that you don’t plan to contribute in finances right away but eventually will, since you plan to save a big chunk for savings for both of you. It’s a win-win for you - if things work out then you both can travel, buy assets or whatever and if things don’t work out then you have a savings to come out of a bad marriage.
  7. Avoid transitioning jobs immediately before or after marriage - it’ll be an add on to your already roller coaster life.

I could only think of so much, feel free to drop in comments if there's any particular situation that you'd like me to help you navigate.

TL;DR - Tips to survive marriages in 2026
