DUI Ontario - lawyers

Ontario DUI lawyer advice needed – who would you choose?

First offence DUI in Toronto. No accident, no injuries, readings were 102 then 97. License suspended + car impounded already. Trying to figure out best lawyer option before disclosure comes in.

I’ve spoken to a few lawyers and trying to decide between:

  1. Andrew Captan – handles the case himself personally, more direct involvement

  2. Mass Tsang – lower upfront cost, but likely passed to associates/junior lawyers

  3. Alexander Karapancev – small group of about 5–6 lawyers working together on the file

(Also spoke with Aitken Robertson / Tarinpal Dhaliwal but still comparing)

Main goal is obviously avoiding a criminal conviction and get license back without ignition lock if possible (careless driving reduction if realistic).

I know disclosure matters most, but for people who have actually dealt with DUI lawyers in Ontario:

- Who would you trust most?
- Better to go with solo lawyer handling it personally or firm/team approach?
- Did anyone use any of these lawyers ? If so please comment your experience. Need help picking the right lawyer
- should I wait till disclosure and then hire a lawyer ?

Would appreciate honest experiences, especially if your DUI got reduced to careless driving.

Thanks

DUI Ontario

First offence DUI in Ontario – anyone with similar BAC / speeding experience?

I’ve never been in trouble before, no criminal history, first time ever dealing with police/court and honestly this whole thing has me stressed and depressed.

My case:
- First offence DUI / over 80
- No accident
- No injuries
- No refusal charge
- Readings were around 102 and 97 (looks like they count it as 100 and 90)
- Also got speeding ticket: 88 in a 50
- Car impounded for 7 days
- License suspended

I’m trying to understand realistically what happens next and whether this usually stays as a criminal charge or if people with similar numbers have had it reduced to something like careless driving.

Has anyone here had a similar BAC range (around 90–100) with speeding involved?

What ended up happening in your case?
Did it stay a criminal DUI conviction?
Was anyone able to get it reduced or resolved differently?

I know every case is different, but hearing real experiences would help because right now my mind is going to worst-case scenario.
