Do references carry weight or are they more of a box to check?

I find it hard to wrap my head around the idea of references being used competitively since people can pay people off, referees can lie, etc. I assume it would make more sense to just ensure there are no red flags but I’m not sure. Any insight into this is appreciated :)

Where can I find match rates for competitive specialties at different Ontario med schools?

So i keep hearing about queens being one of the best schools for matching into competitive specialties but i can’t find any data about this online. All I can find are the amount of students who match into their first choice at each school but this doesn’t necessarily say what the 1st choices are or what percentage of the class the number represents.

Peer Educator (PASS Leader and Peer Tutor) Interview

Has anyone done the interview this year. If so, how was it. What type of questions did they ask, etc. Any advice is appreciated! :)

both tertiary carbocations?

My book said they’re both tertiary. Yet I’m having trouble figuring out how the one on the left is tertiary if the positively charged carbon is bonded to an oxygen as one of its 3 bonds. Isn’t the definition of a tertiary carbocation a positively charged carbon bonded to 3 carbon atoms?

Can this structure participate in resonance and if so, how many structures does it have

I thought the double bond can move to the oxygen to make it negative and the carbon positive but my textbook is saying there are no resonance structures?

I’m really confused in how to distinguish between major, minor and insignificant resonance contributors

Mainly between minor and insignificant. What is the rule of boundary that pushes something to be insignificant vs minor? I’ve seen a lot of conflicting information on this topic and it tends to be more abstract rather than systematic in rules.

People have said only take it in the winter online if you get an interview. So what if you were to get an interview but ultimately get a rejection. Would I just have to live with whatever mark you get at that point?
