Driver side brake pads!

Driver side brake pads!

Read: I replaced them. I’m safe! I know! No need to lecture. But also thank you for the concern.

About a week ago, I heard a noise. Yup, only a week ago! The passenger side did not look this bad, although they clearly needed replacement. What causes the drivers side to go to… this?

I bought my 2016 Patriot Sport 2.4 in 2019. Knowing nothing about vehicle maintenance. My son and I committed to getting shit done as soon as we became financially able (within reason, still poor). My last post was the crank shift sensor. So we’re getting there. I’m just curious about why the driver side was so fucked up.

I don’t tailgate, brake slam or do anything weird. I’m a size small human. But the way these look, I may as well have chewed them up lol. Just looking for insight. Maybe I missed a habit I can correct.

How did you reach the crankshaft position sensor?

As the title ask… how did YOU reach it? If you did a DIY. We are struggling to replace this sensor.

2016 Patriot Sport 2.4 L

Skid plate under, but tried to access from “under” at the back portion of the engine, with Jeep on lifts. Nope.

It doesn’t really seem accessible to the average person. Getting the heat shield bolts off was maddening as well. We’re determined, but just wondering if we’re missing something.

ETA: in the process, we lost a socket to the engine. For awhile we could see it. Then we couldn’t lol. Rip. Had to buy a whole new set. It’s now down their rolling around living it’s best life…
