First-Timer: My water is not (fully) carbonating!

I am working on carbonating my own soda. I got a 5 gallon corny keg, a 5lb CO2 tank, and everything I need to connect it. The one suboptimal thing that restricts me is my fridge space. I don’t have enough to store my keg in it while carbonating and I don’t have a spare outlet to buy a chest freezer. It is simply not an option. The best thing I can do is keep it in my basement, which is colder than my house and should be enough.

I connected everything, ensured there were no leaks, and set my regulator to 45 psi. I then left it for a week (168 hours). When I went to check on it and try the water (I turn off my regulator before attaching my dispensing hose) the water was a little bubbly, but it barely tasted any different. It was lightly carbonated, and did not taste good.

In that time I bought a corny keg carbonation lid (with the cold stone and tube that goes to the bottom), which advertises carbonation in 1-2 days, which should really speed up my testing process. I also got a Zigbee temperature ready so I could track the average temperature in my basement. In that past week (including up to now) I found my basement temperature was always between 59.5° and 64° Fahrenheit. After re-crunching the numbers I found out I was under-pressurizing it, which is why it wasn’t very bubbly. I set my pressure to 60 psi. Lastly, I know this will barely do anything, but I set my keg in a 5 gallon bucket, and filled it with water and ice. Over the next few days I would go down to refill the ice and shake the keg. After turning back on the regulator (and shaking the keg) I hear a satisfying bubbling noise inside of the keg, which means I know this is working.

Almost 24 hours later I went to check on it again and it barely tasted different. Maybe even not different at all, I’m not sure. I turned the wheel on my CO2 tank and realized it was not locked to all the way open. I didn’t think it was any different as if it was moderately open the gas is at a high enough pressure (and the CO2 tube so small) that it barely mattered. Anyway, I ensured it was all the way open and left it again.

I went down 24 hours after that to try again. The water wasn’t any more carbonated before, and tastes pretty bad! When dispensing it there are some bubbles, and it foams, but it is just a layer of flim that dissipates quickly on the top layer. Nothing like the level a real soda machine dispenses.

It is now 24 hours after that. 72 hours carbonating with the carbonation lid. This time I looked everywhere online and tried to do the “optimal dispensing setup.” I turned off my regulator and turned it to 0 psi. I vented all of the pressure in my keg, then turned on my regulator and raised it to 10 psi. I then grabbed an ice-cold soda bottle from my freezer and dispensed my soda in it - and it tasted the same as before! I have no idea why my water is not carbonating. I know my basement isn’t the best temperature to do this at, but I should still be getting something, right? What am I doing wrong?

Will carbonation work if my keg is laying on its side?

I have a 5 gallon corny keg to carbonate water. Currently, I carbonate my kegs in my basement, which averages 62.2 degrees fahrenheit (0.8 degree range on either side) for 7 days. This is not as cold as I'd like it to be.

Just bought a special corny keg carbonation lid that has a tube to dispense the carbonation at the bottom of the keg, claiming to finish it in 1-2 days! I also found out I can probably squeeze my keg and CO2 tank into my refrigerator (the temperature being somewhere between 35 and 42 degrees). However, I would have to lay it on its side to do that. Will I still get the time reduction benefit if I lay my corny keg on my side? I would not be able to swing that large of an item in my fridge for 7 days, but 2 days is manageable, I can do it when my fridge is empty right before a shopping trip.

I do not have any outlets in my basement for a chest freezer, nor the space above my basement.

Spoilers in Episode descriptions!? Is there a way to hide them?

I have recently been rewatching Dexter (2006) with my wife (first time for her). We finished season 1, and if she’s invested (or can’t help but read while scrolling), she’ll read the description of the next episode before we leave. Unfortunately, the description for Season 2 Episode 1 contains a pretty huge spoiler. In the second sentence I remember it reveals the whole cliffhanger at the *end* of the episode!

Is there a way to massively shorten or even hide the description (maybe thumbnails and chapter images) of episodes not watched?

Do I need to carbonate at a higher PSI if not refrigerating?

I just started my first brew. I set everything up to start carbonating water for a week so I can make homemade sodas. I am keeping the keg in my basement, my fridge is nowhere near large enough to fit it, and I don’t have room for another fridge upstairs, and there is no outlet for one in my basement. I am currently trying it at 28 PSI for my first batch.

I’ve read in a couple places that if I’m not refrigerating my keg while it’s carbonating, I will have to do it at a *much* higher pressure (like 43-48 PSI), but those places aren’t very reliable, and I have not seen it mentioned anywhere else, so I’m unsure. If it’s relevant, my basement is usually a couple degrees cooler than the rest of my house, and for the next week it should stay between 60° and 70° F.

I really do not want to brew this for a week and then drink flat soda, or have it not set up for *another* week - So is there any basis to these pressure claims? Can I just leave it the same pressure?

AudioBookShelf or NaviDrome integration/plugin?

Currently, I have Jellyfin set up with my movie and TV show library, however I also use AudioBookshelf for books/audiobooks (that I honestly probably use a little more often) and NaviDrome for music (that I almost never use). They just offer better functionality than Jellyfin's current implementation. Are there currently any ways to integrate those services?

I share my Jellyfin Server with my family. This doesn't bother me as much, but I would love to make things more simple for them. Is there an API implementation that will show content in AudioBookshelf and NaviDrome within Jellyfin as their own libraries, and link there (or show a message on how to access that content on the other app)? That way I could make true collections and playlists with all media content within a series, and it would also unify my request system. Having everything at least viewable in one place would be amazing.

I don't want to just import those libraries into Jellyfin as well, as thoe services use different naming conventions and file structures. I also don't want things to be played or downloaded through Jellyfin and not at least push them towards the services with superior functionality for those types of media.

Is there an implementation or plugin for this? I couldn't find anything, but it seems relatively simple.

I currently have an iPhone 15, with my current trade-in value being quoted as $800. That is a decent bit, which means I can upgrade to a Pixel 10 for free. I have been wanting to switch to Android for a while.

However, it seems that the Pixel launch dates are in August now, so I’m wondering if it would be better to wait. I currently have no issues with my current phone. What’s better, is that the Pixel seems to launch before the new iPhone is announced, so my phone will be on the same generational cycle and hold the same value! But I’m not sure.

How long do trade-in values hold? Will I be fine by waiting a few months to do so, or are the current values based on limited promotion times and I should do it now? The pixel 10 is nearing a year old, and the retail price on Verizon is it’s full msrp.
