Issues with gf family
Family issues / please help!
So let me start this by explaining the living situation we live with my GFs family her grandparents and they let their son run the place because they are older and not all there it’s like they have dementia or something not really sure. It is kind of family compound but Grandparents it’s their property. The son lives next to us, but not on the property. Son has things on the property animals/buildings etc.
We are not going to stay here long term. I am in college and will be graduating next year. Gf is trying to get into police academies which we don’t know when that will happen. We want to have some financial security/decent paying jobs before we leave. We also pay rent $800 a month. Normal apartments in the area $2000 and up we wouldn’t be able to afford it rn. We do not have a written agreement with grandparents about anything.
So gf and me wanted to trim some trees, we asked for permission. We went to do it, got worried we were gonna cut a branch too close to the power line so we asked grandparents. Instead of just getting a yes or no they took over. They ended up trimming more trees than what we discussed with the son. I was texting/calling the son asking what to do because I knew they would be upset and I wanted the grandparents to stop. My gf and I told the grandparents to wait for permission on the other trees. But the son did not answer so I did not know what to do. When they got home, everything blew up.
The son is being very angry and pretty much giving us a bunch of demands now and changing the rules. It feels like harassment. He is blaming us for the trees all being cut, when we just wanted clarification on the one tree which was already agreed upon to be trimmed. The son says it’s our fault because we got the gps involved.
Now he is saying for us move out (that is fine because not his property gps said we can stay) but the son is saying they are gonna tear down animal builds my gf and me worked on building. They want us to get rid of our animals off the property. I don’t want either of these things to happen that’s what I care about most right now. They even had me remove the tree I planted over my dead animal again on the grandparents property not theirs, but gps won’t back us up, letting what the son says goes, and we get to take the whole brunt of it.
I mentioned to grandparents I wanted to talk about the animals and the buildings we put up on the property. All of the buildings and animals were given permission to be here on time or another. But the son messaged me and said that if I want to talk about it or complain to them I can leave. I don’t know if I should actually sit down and try to talk to grandparents and come to an agreement (hopefully written) about me and gf staying here and the animals and enclosures. I dont know if that would make it worse because the son said not to?
The son called me a bunch of names like entitled, privileged, playing victim, and the mastermind etc. They blocked me after I said to let my gf know if he needs anything / text her because I need some time to calm down before I could talk about the situation. Now I can’t even talk to them about it now once I have calmed down.
Am I immature? Is there someway to handle this better? How do I deal with this? I am so lost and upset. I really don’t want my animals or their enclosures to have to leave!
Summary: My girlfriend and I live on her grandparents’ property, but their son mostly controls things because the grandparents are older. We got permission to trim one tree, but when we became worried about cutting near a power line and asked the grandparents for clarification, they took over and trimmed additional trees without the son’s approval. We tried to stop them and contacted the son for guidance, but he did not respond until after everything escalated. Now he is blaming us for all the trees being cut, making new demands, threatening our animal setups, telling us to remove our animals, and calling me names, while the grandparents are not standing up to him even though it is their property. I need guidance please!
