Fashion gatekeeping sadness

Can I just take a moment to be sad about the reality that is fashion gatekeeping? Many of us have to spend so much time and money (neither of which is available in droves) to “look right” for our jobs, in order to be successful. I’m glad this subreddit exists, and glad that we also have fun with fashion too. But it saddens me that we (esp. women) have to make such an investment in something that does not actually reflect our abilities as legal professionals. And as usual, this burden hits hardest on folks who come from non-upper class backgrounds, who are not thin, not white, and/or have disabilities.

At the renaissance faire

Kidless renaissance dude: ok hear me out. There should be baby jousting.

Renaissance dad wrangling baby: baby jousting?

KRD: one of them should be Puerto Rican.

I have interviews coming up so full suit it is. Generally I like wearing pencil skirts and think they fit me better than pants. However I have 2 reservations: 1) I’m 48 and am starting to feel more self conscious about my legs (pale, a bit splotchy) and 2) I haven’t worn heels in years. I don’t want to wear stockings/heels but think they’d generally look better with a skirt suit? Or should I just wear pants and flats to avoid the whole showing legs thing?
