Not sure what to do in Connecticut
My wife got sideswiped today by some teenagers on the far left lane and decided to take a right turn right into her. Since the doors couldn’t open, the officer had her stay in the car and handled everything. He gave a card with a case number but not the other person insurance information. The police report won’t be available for 3 to 5 days and my insurance covers rent a cars and we need a car for work.
I called my insurance company and started to put through the claim to start to get the rent a car. But my neighbor said that to not use my company at all and to call theirs.
The officer had reassured my wife it was not her fault. And I left a message with the police dispatcher to have officer callback to get the insurance information from the other party. But I already put through the claim and don’t have their insurance info. Did I make a mistake here? Can I call my insurance company and say never mind? I’m worried because we living paycheck to paycheck and a $500 deductible or my rate going up is going to hard on my family.
