My first Erasmus - Valencia
Hi everyone!
I am currently in my final year of a double major teaching degree in English Language and History in Croatia. I decided to enroll in an additional graduate/absolvent year and apply for an Erasmus exchange in Valencia for the entire summer semester.
This will be my first Erasmus experience, and honestly I am both excited and nervous at the same time. I’ve never lived abroad for such a long period before, so I have a lot of questions that are probably common for most first-time Erasmus students 😅
Some things I’m wondering about:
• How difficult is it to find accommodation in Valencia?
• Which neighborhoods are best for students (near the city centre, campus, etc.)?
• What is the average monthly cost of living there?
• Is it easy to meet other Erasmus students, local students, or students from other parts of Spain and make friends?
• How good is public transport in Valencia?
• Is Spanish necessary for everyday life, or is English enough?
• What are the universities and student life like there?
• Any advice for someone going on Erasmus for the first time?
• Things you wish you knew before arriving?
• What apps/websites are best for finding rooms or roommates?
• Is Valencia safe for students from other parts of Europe?
• How expensive are groceries and nightlife (drinks, club tickets, etc.)?
• Is it possible to visit Mallorca, Barcelona, Madrid, and other cities/areas from Valencia?
I love travelling, sightseeing, and exploring new places, and since I’ve never been to Spain before, visiting as much as possible is definitely something I want to do during my Erasmus experience!
• What should I definitely bring from home?
I’d also love to hear about your Erasmus experiences in Valencia - good or bad.
Thanks in advance!
Edit:
Also, as soon as my Erasmus exchange got accepted, I started learning Spanish on Duolingo 😄 Hopefully by the time I arrive in Valencia, I’ll be able to handle at least basic everyday conversations.
