can proper posture ruin your aim ?
Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out something that has been messing with my aim for a while.
I’m actually pretty good at aim trainers, and my tracking feels completely normal there. The problem is that my aim sometimes feels disconnected, like I don’t have full control over my hand, especially when I’m tracing a target and then transitioning into a flick or micro-adjustment.
This started after I learned about “proper” aiming/gaming posture. Before that, I had a very natural setup that I was comfortable with: my chair was lower and my elbow was more flared outward. I never really thought about my posture or how my arm was positioned, and I could just aim naturally.
After learning that I was supposedly supposed to have a more “correct” posture, I started trying to fix everything — chair height, elbow position, forearm angle, wrist position, etc. Since then, I’ve become extremely conscious of how my arm is positioned while aiming.
Now I feel like I’m constantly trying to find the “right” position. Sometimes I literally change my posture every round because my aim feels off, but every position ends up feeling wrong or unnatural.
Another thing I noticed is that my forearm naturally points slightly outward rather than straight toward the center of my body, roughly like /. I don’t know if this is just my natural anatomy/position or something I should actually correct.
So I’m wondering: should I just go back to my old natural setup (lower chair + flared-out elbow), even if it might not be considered “proper posture,” and stop trying to force my arm into a supposedly correct position?
Or should I stick with the newer posture and let myself adapt to it?
I’m mainly trying to get back to the point where I don’t think about my arm or posture at all and can just aim naturally. Any advice from people who have experienced something similar would be appreciated.
