Need advice. Was I wrong to take “don’t get in between SO and BM” so seriously?

Early in my relationship with SO, I was actually pretty involved with his kids. I participated in pick-ups/drop-offs, school events, birthday parties, etc. There wasn’t really tension between BM and me at the time.

Then SO’s grandma told me that their family “loves and respects BM so much because she allows him to see other people” and warned me not to get between SO and BM.

That really changed how I viewed my role. They weren’t together, so being told BM was “allowing” him to date and that I shouldn’t get between them made me feel like they were the established family/coparenting unit and I was supposed to stay outside of it.

So over time, I did. I stopped communicating with BM completely and became much more disengaged. We’ve gone no contact for a year now. If I ever see her again I intend to be polite and respectful, but she’s SO’s coparent, not mine. I don’t consider us friends or family.

Now I’ve heard through mutual friends that BM makes comments about me “running and hiding” from her and that our house “lacks structure.” None of these concerns have actually been brought to SO, her coparent.

Meanwhile, SO wishes I were more involved and recently invited me to the kids’ first day of school with him and BM. He was confused/hurt that I didn’t want to go.

I feel like I’m simultaneously being told to stay in my lane and criticized for actually staying there.

How would you have interpreted his grandma’s original comment? And what kind of relationship, if any, would you feel obligated to have with BM now?

I don’t know how to cope with grieving my own loss while also expected to be a stepmom.

I’m not really sure what I’m looking for other than to know I’m not alone.

I recently had a miscarriage after my first pregnancy. It was my first chance at becoming a mom, and I don’t think I’ve fully processed how devastating it has been. It feels like my entire future disappeared overnight.

My partner already has children from a previous relationship. Before all of this, I was trying to figure out my place as a stepparent. Now, I honestly don’t even want to be around the kids. I know that probably sounds awful, but every time they’re here I’m reminded of everything I just lost.

My partner is grieving too, but he already has the experience of being a parent. As much as I know he’s hurting, he still gets to wake up and be “Dad.” I don’t get to be “Mom.” That opportunity was taken away from me, and I feel like people don’t understand how different that is.

He recently mentioned having one of the kids’ birthday parties at our house next month, and instead of feeling excited I just wanted to cry. The thought of decorating, celebrating, and watching everyone be happy while I’m mourning my baby feels impossible. I don’t want to fake being okay just because life keeps moving for everyone else.

I also feel guilty because I know the kids didn’t do anything wrong. They’re innocent. But right now I don’t have anything left emotionally to give. I’m exhausted, heartbroken, and honestly just trying to survive each day.

Part of me worries that the only version of motherhood I’ll ever get is being someone’s stepmom, and after losing my pregnancy that thought hurts more than I can explain. I know that’s probably my grief talking, but it’s where my mind keeps going.

Has anyone else experienced a miscarriage while navigating stepfamily life? How did you handle the resentment, sadness, guilt, or just being around your partner’s children while grieving? Did those feelings get easier with time?

Please be kind. I’m not looking for judgment. I already feel guilty enough. I just want to hear from people who have been through something similar because right now I feel incredibly alone.

Closed Account Sent to Third Party Collections Without Notification - Requesting Corporate Debt Recall

Hello,

I am posting to request an escalation to a corporate billing specialist regarding a severe communication failure with my account.

I recently discovered that an unrecognized balance on my account that was forwarded to a third-party collection agency. I was completely unaware that this balance even existed, as I never received a final invoice, statement, or warning from Xfinity prior to the account being outsourced.

I called customer service today to resolve this immediately. I offered to pay the full balance directly to Xfinity on the explicit condition that Xfinity processes a corporate debt recall to pull the account back from the collection agency, thereby protecting my credit report from unfair damage.

Not only did the frontline phone agents refuse to transfer me to a Tier 2 supervisor to discuss a debt recall, but they also explicitly refused to provide their names or Employee ID numbers when requested.

I am ready and willing to clear this balance today, but I need an authorized corporate representative to handle a formal debt recall so the collection agency is required to completely delete the trade-line from my credit file, rather than just marking it as "paid."

Please reply with a secure link so I can provide my account details privately. Thank you.
