I listen to the same 15 artists - and subscribe to Spotify. What should I do?

Hello!

I listen to 15 artists, the occasional podcast and audio book. I am looking to get out of subscriptions and was wondering what the practical steps would be to have access to these artists, possible other artists on the rare occasion, and then podcasts / audiobooks.

Are there any solutions for this?

Would love to:

  1. Queue music
  2. Store everything offline
  3. Create playlists with friends for evenings
  4. Sync with my PC
  5. Buy new stuff when I feel like it
  6. Access the rare oldies that are hard to find.

Agency won't pay £3,200 because end client never approved my timesheet — I opted out of the Conduct Regs. Any options?

England & Wales. Posting on behalf of my limited company.

Setup: Contractor working through my own Ltd, engaged via a recruitment agency to work for an end client. Outside IR35 (client is a small company, so no SDS required). Self-billing agreement in place, so the agency raises invoices rather than me invoicing them. Agreed rate £400/day + VAT. I signed the Conduct Regulations opt-out.

What happened: I worked 8 days in May. The engagement then ended by mutual agreement — the agency confirmed the end date in writing, with no complaint about my work and no allegation of poor performance.

I submitted my timesheet through the agency's portal on my last day, within the 1 month the contract requires and before the agency's own approval deadline. It records all 8 days. It has sat at "Submitted" ever since — the named client approver has never actioned it.

Where it stands: Per the agency's published payment schedule, this should have paid at the end of June. Nothing arrived. The agency's Commercial & Compliance Director has now put in writing that because the client hasn't authorised the time, and because I opted out, no amounts are contractually due, and that the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 therefore doesn't apply. The end client has ignored my emails (polite, cc'd to the agency) asking them to either approve the timesheet or tell me what's wrong with it. Both sides are now silent.

The contract: Payment is conditional on the client having "authorised or signed the relevant time recording process." Signing the self-billing agreement normally switches that condition off, but a separate clause re-engages it specifically for contractors who've opted out. A different clause says failure to obtain client approval "may delay payment."

What I've tried: Two solicitors. One declined it as too small. The other quoted £750 to draft a letter before action, with the caveat they might then conclude there's nothing to be done — so £750 potentially for nothing.

So: I did the work, submitted it correctly and on time, nobody has ever said the work was defective, and the only missing step is a button nobody at the client will press.

Where do I go from here? Is this worth pursuing at all given the opt-out, or am I throwing good money after bad?

UK -> Europe For Snowboarding This Winter - How would you plan it?

Hello,

First time going to Europe in a van, and first time parking at a slope, getting lift passes, renting gear, and heading the mountain.

Thinking 3 weeks in December for snowboarding from the 15th into January.

Would love to know what to do, and what not to do. Everything from driving there to getting situated in somewhere good.

Open to locations.

Would you use a chat app that only works while you're on a campsite?

An idea I keep coming back to, and I want honest gut reactions before I waste my weekends building it.

A chat that's geo-fenced to a single campsite. You open it and only see/talk to people who are currently on the same site as you. Drive off, you drop off it. No faffing with accounts, free for everyone. You just turn up and it works wherever you are.

The kind of thing I picture:

  • "Anyone want to split a cab into town around 10?"
  • "Doing a BBQ at bay 12 tonight, wander over"
  • "Got a spare gas canister someone could lend?"
  • "Any families with kids around? Ours are climbing the walls"

Basically the conversations that already happen by accident when you bump into your neighbours.

What I want to know:

  • Would you actually open this on a trip, or is it a solution looking for a problem?
  • What would put you off — strangers, privacy, can't-be-arsed, signal's rubbish out there anyway?
  • Has anyone seen something like this work or flop?

Not selling anything, no link, genuinely just want to know if I'm the only one who'd use it.

Has anyone installed an undermounted generator for their campervan?

With the sun now being a distant memory, and with our jumpers and heating back on, our electricity is now taking a huge hit again.

We've got 780w solar, 50ah alternator charger, and 560ah and are down to 37% in 6 days. We cook on electricity and heat with a Truma diesel heater.

Has anyone considered installing, or installed an undermounted generator? I've seen them going for around £3k, and I think they'd be fantastic for winter.

Example find: Hyundai Petrol 3.5kW Underslung Vehicle Mounted RVi Generator

How Does One Approach Visiting Cornwall?

Hello!

We've been travelling around the UK, love the beaches, loved Scotland, and now are looking to venture down to possibly the online place England gets any sun.

Would love to know the dos/do nots from people's experiences, and niche locations that hit the spot, etc. Park4night locations would be even more wonderful for us to checkout.

Hoping to make this a special one.

Thanks y'all!

Has anyone managed to collect rainwater from their van for drinking?

Sitting here in the heat with both water tanks reading 0%, I’m wondering whether anyone has found a practical way to collect and use rainwater from a van setup.

Houses can do it with gutters and downpipes, but has anyone adapted something similar for vanlife? For example, collecting runoff from solar panels, a roof rack, or the van roof itself into a tank?

I’m mainly curious about whether it’s realistic for drinking water after filtration/sterilisation, or if it’s only sensible for washing, dishes, or emergency use.

Has anyone tried this? What worked, what didn’t, and what would you do differently?

How to let air in and out of water tanks?

Hello!

We want to fill the tanks to the top, and also want to allow air in and out so the tanks do not collapse. They're connected at the bottom. We have 12mm John Guest piping currently going 6cm above the tanks, with an air filter. The issue is though they could let water out over our electronics.

Our thoughts are:

  1. Do we try to find some sort of mesh for 12mm john guest piping to have this water overflow system let in air?

  2. Do we have two systems, where water can leave only (like in the diagram), and we let air only enter with filters on top?

Would love to know a tried and tested solution. Especially when considering for example, the bottom of the piping that goes through the campervan floor could freeze in winter (not allowing air/water in/out)
