Best nature-focused campervan trip within 4–5 hours from Amsterdam?

Hi everyone,
My partner and I are planning our first campervan trip from Amsterdam in mid-July (Friday–Monday) and we’re looking for the best area to use as a base.

We’re looking for forests, hiking, natural swimming spots (rivers/lakes/waterfalls), quiet evenings, dark skies and small nature-focused campsites.

We’re in our early 30s, travelling without kids, so we’d prefer a relaxed outdoor vibe with hikers, nature lovers or van travellers rather than big family holiday camps.

We’re open to other ideas within a reasonable drive.
Where would you go, and do you have any recommendations for small campsites or camper spots?

Thanks!

Thinking about Getting bodywork/rust repairs done on a van in Morocco

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a trip to Morocco with my camper van at the end of this year, and I’m looking into getting some bodywork and welding/restoration done while I’m there.

Someone told me that he let someone restore his camper in Morocco and that Morocco has some highly skilled mechanics and body shops, especially when it comes to rust repairs.

Has anyone here ever had welding or bodywork done on their vehicle/camper in Morocco?

Were you satisfied with the quality of the work?

Do you have any specific shops, regions, or mechanics you would recommend?

Any tips on what to look out for, typical turnaround times, or general advice on communicating what needs to be done would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Advice for buying an RV/van coming from abroad

Hi! My partner and I are looking at vans and RVs in Europe to travel around for up to a year before moving somewhere in the EU. We are coming from Australia and my partner just got an EU citizenship through her parents but we have no address in the eu of our own, which makes registering a vehicle tricky. The options we are considering are:

  1. Guardianship programs that some rv sellers offer where you pay about 100euros a month for them to technically own it for you
  2. “exporting” the rv to Andorra and getting the mt tourist plates (we are worried how this affects the resale options..)
  3. Moving in with some family we have in Spain or Germany for a time until we can register a vehicle at that address (but then maybe having to pay ongoing costs associated with residency)
  4. just renting or doing a buyback option but this feels like the worst choice
  5. some option we don’t know about?!

Wondering if any of you have experience with these different options or other recommendations. Thanks!!

Show or Tell us what / where you're up to this week !

How are you keeping cool in this heatwave?

Share a slice of your journey or just ordinary daily van/motorhome life!

Post a photo from wherever you are today or this week - or just tell us something about it!

Could be a campsite, a park up, a border crossing, a random grocery store car park, or the view out your window while you’re making coffee.

Bonus points if you add a note about where you are and what you’re up to so the rest of us can get a glimpse of your travels!

If you don't want to share pics, you can just tell us :)

Ever been pulled over ?

Currently travelling in Europe (Germany, Czechia, Austria). OH is freaking about possibly being pulled over because van may be overweight (Licensed for 3.5 tonnes, I’d estimate maybe 100kg over max!).

Has anyone been pulled over about van weight?

Edit: thanks for the comments, we’ve decided to avoid Austria and Czechia for now, we’ll visit again via an easyJet flight at Christmas!

Recommendations for campsites with little light pollution

Would love to clearly see the stars! I live in the Netherlands in a big city and also on vacation I don't see much of a difference in the sky. I would love to travel to areas with less light pollution. Any campsites you recommend where you also have a great view of the sky due to height/absense of trees/wide clear horizon etc?

Would love pictures if you have them!

Edit: I feel like I need to clarify: I am specifically looking for specific campsites where you have a good view of the sky, preferably on the horizon as well. AND there is little light pollution.

I know of websites and maps, but I am specifically looking for campsites where the view won't be blocked by trees everywhere.
