Travel Tips

Essential Preparation

Jordan Pass: Buy it ahead of time to cover entry to over 40 sites and save on visa costs.

Cash Money: Keep small JOD notes (1, 5, and 10 dinars) for local vendors, cafes, and taxis.

Dress Code: Wear loose, modest, and lightweight clothes that cover shoulders and knees.

Sightseeing and Travel

Early Start: Visit major sites like Petra right when they open to beat the heat and crowds.

Pace Yourself: Do not pack too many long drives into a single day.

Wadi Rum: Book your desert 4x4 tours and camps ahead of time.

Practical Prevention Tips

Use Ride-Hailing Apps: Download the Careem or local apps in Amman to bypass haggling with traditional taxis and lock in transparent digital pricing.

Insist on the Meter: If you hail a standard yellow street taxi, make sure the driver flips the meter on before the car moves, or agree firmly on a fair rate before getting in.

Book Official Services: Only hire certified guides through official site visitor centers or your hotel desk rather than accepting offers from people lingering at the gates.

Clarify Inclusions: Politely decline any offers of "free" animal rides or gifts unless you are completely clear that no surprise cash tip or payment will be forcefully demanded afterward.

Hiked Tonquin Valley last week and had the amazing luck to have a caribou walk right past me as I sat on the bridge near surprise point. The views were incredible all the way through.

Palovit Şelalesi (Trabzon,Turkey)

Palovit Waterfall in near Rize city (the Black Sea region) in northern Turkey 🇹🇷. One of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area, the road there is a little rough but just as stunning as the destination.

High Place of Sacrifice (Petra)

The most challenging hike in Petra is the one to the high place of sacrifice (Al Madhbah in Arabic) there are approximately 700 steps and it takes about an hour (high pace) to 2 hours to reach the the top.

If you can only do 1 hike and had to choose between this place and the monastery, I would choose the monastery it is more scenic in my opinion.

The Monastery (Petra)

Most of the people that visit Petra don’t make it this far. Although it is a difficult hike in my opinion it is totally worth it.

Sapadere Canyon is a popular natural retreat located approximately 40 kilometers from Alanya in the Antalya Province of Turkey. Opened to tourism in 2008, the canyon is famous for its 750-meter-long wooden walkway that allows visitors to explore dramatic cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and crystal-clear turquoise pools tucked within the Taurus Mountains.

FYI: The water is very cold (approx. 10 degrees C ) even in the middle of the summer.

Another amazing beach in the Turkish Riviera however there are 2 main downsides to this beach;

  1. There is no designated parking, so people park along the street which can choke up the street especially on weekends

  2. For families with little kids or elderly the long staircase to the beach from the street level can be challenging.
